I was able to keep in touch with him during his two tours. With myspace I could look and see he had logged-in, ok he's not dead as of last night.

It's a tool, all depends how you use it.

  My son Sean is in Farrar, Afghanistan right now after 2 tours of Iraq. Communications has always been by email and occasional phone call. It's a far cry from the occasional letters we got from my brother Ted when he did a tour in Vietnam near the end of that campaign. If there was local hot action, or an aircraft downing of any sort, communications were interrupted for security reasons for an undetermined amount of time. On this tour, he actually found some sort of cheap cell phone that actually works well, and he can call fairly frequently to stay in touch with his wife in Colorado and us here in St. Louis. He's been trying to get me to do the facebook thing, and I just might do that soon. Seems like I'm the last in my family to do it! I hope yours, mine and ours stay safe and come home soon!

I have just finished reading the young McCoy's story.  It is still hard to see young people have to grow up so fast.  He should be a writer and document all these stories.  Hope he and all of the other young people of our country make it home safe and sound.  I have gotten to meet the older son of one of the parents that brings the younger son to school each day.  Every so often I ask her if he is doing okay.  Sean is another young man I have kind of watched grow up and wish him well.  My son tried to get in when 100 day war started.  But, I guess they were too choosey as he was sent home.  Thanks for the story.
