Title: FAA Registration

I went to the FAA registration site to get myself into the system and found that in order to register I need to check a bunch of boxes on safety related topics.  I cannot, in good faith check two of the boxes:

1. I will not fly over people. (As a CL pilot I always fly over myself and as combat pilot I regularly fly over 2-3 people during a match).
2. I will not fly at or near an airport. (At least 1 contest a year is at my local airport)

So, do I check a box that I will knowingly violate?  Not sure there is an opportunity for resolution here.

Dave I can only say sign up and go to confession more often.  We know they did not foresee everything.  I was told you COULD fly within the airport zone with prior permission and a call to the tower for a heads up.  This will be local one-on-one with the airport management.  The folks yesterday thought the tower would get tired of the calls sooner or later and just give blanket permission to known individuals.

Why would you want to register anyway?  Did someone finally say CL had to register?  I'm not going to until the Jackboots knock on my door!

AMA still says CL & FF fliers don't have to register. Further, CD's are not required to check entrants for FAA registration at R/C events. I'm wondering if the new law governing the FAA's intrusion on our various activities is going to take forever, or will it be Rushed (pun intended) through in time to save us?  ??? Steve

Steve your point was brought up at the meeting yesterday.  Not sure there was a great answer.  The VP felt it would be up to the FAA to enforce their rule while some of the club officials worried about their liability should something happen at their contest with an unregistered aircraft.

 I was tempted today to stop by the local RC field, flash my A&P license and ask if everyone's registered. Seriously, I haven't been notified of anything from anybody so, why take action.
