Hope all you Slobs are happy now
« on: November 29, 2006, 11:09:43 PM »
Well I went to the hobby shop today, planning on buying a respectable biplane kit like the 38 Special. I found the 38 Special and a bunch of other stuff. When I was walking a long I spotted a Bi-Slob kit on the shelf. I looked away as quick as I could. I kept thinking about the thread on this forum where everyone talked about how much fun they were and then I remembered the pictures. I walked by and glanced at it again. When I got ready to check out somehow it had got in with my stuff. I started to tell the man I didn't know how it had got there, but by then he had everything added up and I didn't want to cause him a problem so I didn't say anything. About that time my wife walked up behind me and started to look over my shoulder. I said; "Don't be so snoopy, you know it is almost Christmas". She didn't buy it and she had already seen the Bi-Slob anyway. On the way home she called me a slob. I tried to explain to her that technically I wasn't a slob until I flew the plane. I am pretty sure she didn't understand.

My wife gave me my Bi-Slob for Christmas last year. I opened up a little box under the tree and there was a note in there that said "Hey Slob look in the garage!"
I went out into the garage and there it was a Bi-Slob kit sitting there looking lonely. So I had to bring it into the house, but I was able to resist building it until the week before Thankgiving. I flew it last Sunday.

A thought :

Would the Slob be a suitable trainer for a beginner ?

A slob doesn't do anything fast. It stays tight on the lines. Mine seems to hunt a little bit when it is supposed to be flying straight and level. It might work. Frank in his video uses it for a trainer, but I'm not sure if it was the boy's first flight or a follow up flight. Frank will probably post here soon.

I have let people who have never flown control line  try to fly my Bi-Slob. Usually I had my video camera nearby. It always makes for some very funny video.
My experience tells me that the Slob is a very sturdy airplane. It could be used s a trainer but I wouldn't do it unless there was someone to get the action on video.

Keith--welcome to the Slob side of life.

I'll be putting a collection of this years Bi-Slob activity on a DVD over the Christmas Holiday.
There are more crashes on this one than the first. We flew combat- we let RC guys try to fly it-- we did loops around each others planes. AND.......both of our Slobs are still in good shape.

  Hey Frank,
Exposing a newby to "Slob-ism" and catching it on video is downright cruel. **)

Isn't this very thing mentioned in one of the 12 steps. ;D

 Cheers, Rob.

Thank you for your confidence in me. I will try to not fail any of the other Slobs by doing something respectable.
