Title: Extra ribs in kit???
Post by: Paul Taylor on December 22, 2024, 01:00:42 PM
Anyone ever get extra ribs in a Brodak kit?
I ended up with 4 extra ribs

Maybe I should add them as I tend to build heavy anyway. 😂

Just kidding.

Paul I had that happen a couple of times with RSM Kits when Eric Rule was owner but not from Brodak.

Paul,

Those aren't for building, those are talismans. It's kind of a Murphy's Law thing: if you have extra ribs, you never break anything in the wing and therefore have no need to replace them. Because you already have them. I think they only put those in kits made on Fridays?

On second thought, maybe they are there for when the plane just isn't working right and you can "toss the ribs," sort of like tossing the bones to get the demystifying answer from the Stunt God(s)? I don't know if it works because I never got any extra ribs. I did get some extra sheeting in one kit that I couldn't figure out where to install. You can't toss that, so I just scabbed it on the wing as extra planking. It was a pretty sheety plane in the end.

Seems more than once, at least one of those ribs came in handy to replace one that got damaged during assembly.

Never had extra ribs, but have had to use the full size plans to make the missing ribs. D>K

Well I guess I should have read the manual.
Some ribs are doubled up for wing gear blocks and center rib.
I no longer have 4 extra ribs. 🤪

Now you know why Brodak manuals say first thing is to read it before starting. D>K

Paul, I have a different kit rib experience. I bought a Fierce Arrow 875 kit from Eric Rule. It contained a combination of  ribs from the 857 & 57 FA versions in error. I contacted Eric about this and he immediately replaced the missing 857 ribs. He was a good guy.

My Primary Force kit had no center ribs. Maybe Paul got them?  D>K Steve
