Finally got to take it outside!
« on: May 19, 2013, 09:23:35 PM »
Now that I'm home for summer vacation, I got right to work on finishing the last bit of prep work to get the Thundergazer ready to fly, making up the lines.  While I was at it, I shot some pictures.  I should fly it sometime this week if it doesn't rain like I was told it was supposed to.

It's the prop Brett recommended for the RO-Jett 61.

Why don't you leave it outside?

Bugs, birds taking dumps on it, rain, wind, other debris flying around....just a few reasons  ;D

Today was a perfect day to go fly it for the first time, but the circle wasn't mowed and we were trying to find out why the lawn mower sprung an oil leak. Sigh...

It's been raining now since Tuesday...the backyard is flooded and the weather is downright miserable. I have no idea how you guys in the northwest are able to put up with so much rain

In the Northwest, if you aren't willing to fly with a little rain and wind, you don't fly.

With all the rain, sleet and snow this spring, we are still hurting here in this part of the country.   I am seeing the bottom of the Kaw River(Kansas River) I've never seen before.   Also have cracks in the soil almost a half inch wide in my back yard.   So don't complain unless you want to dry up like we are.

Thanks Gene! I have three ideas in my head for paint schemes depending on what I build next. I have a Cobra wing somewhat framed up from a few years ago I could do some work on when I'm home.

How many more years of study before a job takes the place of school?    even tho when I graduated high school and thought I was done with learning, that is when the learning process really started.    And at 70+ still learning. H^^

And at 70+ still learning.

I've found that the accelerated forgetting makes the net learning go slower.  I may have passed breakeven.

I will be a sophomore starting in the Fall, so I got three more years left before I graduate.

Just waiting for the backyard to dry out before I can mow it and then get to do some flying!!!

Yes it does!!!!!  Sorry Steve, forgot to tell you.

This is great news!! Congratulations!

P.S. I just came back from my longest trip yet. I flew to Chicago and back. 10hours there and 6 hours back. The final approach to Norwood airport was the lowest I've ever done: 550ft ceiling with 300ft DA. Whoever invented GPS LPV approaches is a genius!!!

Thanks! I start instrument next semester and that won't break the bank as much as private did.

Gotta love GPS!!!! I've done three of them already! I actually have more actual instrument time than simulated instrument. Sadly that will change next semester

Bench ran the motor tonight (purred like a kitten) and sealed the hinge lines. All that's left is to go fly it!!!

BTW, if anyone has any Brian Eather 12.5" three blades (must be because its late at night but i cant remember the pitch for the life of me) they are willing to part with, I will be forever grateful! I only have two and could use a few spares.

I did that last year and believe I will do it again. I was hoping I could get my hands on a spare or two before Brodaks next week.

Of course the backyard floods again last night...ugh! Aside from today, all of this week looks good for weather so I should be able to fly the Thundergazer within the next few days.
