Title: Excalibur

I am starting work on the Excalibur and I have the original plans from Flying Models magazine of May, 1967, which states that no plywood doublers are required on this model since the doublers will be made of 1/2 inch balsa wood.   Has anyone built this model without using plywood doublers on the front end?  Any help is appreciated.   Bob

I had the kit that was produced years ago in a shop in Ft Worth.  Picked it up while going to school in Dallas.  The design does not need ply doublers as the engine sits on the motor mount themselves.  Never had any stress cracks or vibration.  It is one terrific flying plane.  DOC Holliday

 I also have and fly an Excalibur. No plywood is used up front and the plane has held up to a few years of steady flying. Oh I forgot to mention that it was one of Walter Umlands fabulous offerings.
