Title: EVO 36 owners - How much fuel does your EVO 36 use?
Post by: Warren Leadbeatter on March 15, 2009, 12:58:16 AM
Or perhaps a better question might be, what size tank are you using with your EVO 36.

I put in the first flights of my EVO 36 / Brodak 38 Special and it's using the juice.  I expect this to improve, but what should I expect a broken in Evo 36 to use?

We fly the FAI pattern here ie 7 mins.

Cheers

Hey Warren - I'm about 2 weeks away from the first flights of my 38Special/EVO36. Am very curious on your thoughts and impressions of your first flights. I've heard the EVO36 is thristy for awhile ... I'll be using a 4oz standard vent tank. I dont have weights yet. The wings are Ultracoat, and the rest Lusterkote rattle can. I shot the clear a few days ago and just got the rudder/elevator hinged (I made the rudder adjustable) and installed. I started the bellcrank and leadouts yesterday, and the final assembly of the top wing will be next week. I really should build the wheel pants ... it will finish it off nice!

Post some pics and specifics! I'll be almost afraid to fly mine ... it looks better than I had ever hoped! LOL!

Hi Larry

I've had my 38 Special for some time (Since Feb 07).  It used to have a TTGP40 in it but I couldnt get it to run properly when inverted so I decided to put my new Evo 36 in to see how it goes.  The Evo is still running in but already I know that it is better inverted than the old engine was.

It does use a lot of fuel at the moment but from experience and what Ive read, it will get better... just how much better, I do not know yet.

Ahhhh, yes!  I remember your plane!  Very nice! They are sharp lookin!  You might be able to get away with one of the other venturies to improve your fuel useage, but I read that the large venturi is the one to use. I planned on starting with that one. Undecided on prop for first flights ... either 10x6 or 11x5. Its supposed to be quite the powerhouse, so it should turn an 11 just fine.

Trying to get it bench trimmed as much as possible. I've been working on this thing since last September, and now that 1st flight is right around the corner, I'm nervous! My wife thinks its too pretty to fly  mw~.... but that aint gonna happen!!! I'll pick a calm day, and then let 'er rip ......  n~

The 38 Special is pretty light, I found it was way too fast with a 10x6 so I changed to 11x4.5 and now it's good. Using 60' lines at 9000 rpm I'm getting 5.4 sec laps.

My wife likes the look of my 38 too, she even lets me keep it inside! :)

They fly really well, you'll love it.

my evo 36 set up as it came from the factory was a gas hog. I drilled the medium venturi for a ST NVA and used an OS muffler. It felt like about 10 minutes from a 4.5 oz tank. Power was too low. I should have used the large venturi instead.

Mine has only about 20 minutes on it and develops plenty of power! I'm using the smallest venturi and Phil's suggestion for the OS R/C NVA, and on the bench, I get about 80 seconds per ounce. Sure hope it gets less thirsty . . .

I do some more accurate fuel economy tests and let you know what I am getting as the age of mine progresses.

Don't know myself as I still am breaking in without muffler.  It will not start with the muffler attached.  DOC Holliday
