Title: Everything Comes together
Post by: bruce malm on October 11, 2006, 12:04:44 PM
Since I moved to CA in 1965 I always wanted to try to duplicate George Lieb's Cirus design eaxactly like the one I sold to Shultzie when I left. I figured I had most of the design figured out from memory, talking to George, and the one picture I built of one while in Viet Nam. The problem was finding a good old Torp 45 greenhead.
Well in the last two weeks  i was able to score an RC version that is in pretty good shape for $28.00 but will have to go to Scott for a venturi and an almost new CL version for $48.00. I even have an old 11x4 Top Flite  prop and a 10x6 Grish 3 blade to go with it. All I have to do is is get the other projects out of the way and get to the drawing board. Now if it will just fly as good as the original. I was wondering if it would qualify for Classic as I was told Smotzie ( Shulzie) won a couple of contests with it after I left. Hope there might be some pictures around to verify it.  If nothing else, when I get it built, I'll have to sneek up to WA and drag Smotzie out for a few go rounds for old time sake. ANyway, sometimes the BAY can be a good thing as Martha would say.

Happy Landings!!

The fact that you actually had one in 1965 is prima facie evidence that the design is Classic legal.  Plus, you have pictures. <=

There might be other opinions, but most of us are happy to see "new" old planes show up.
