ever hear of Traxxas fuel?
« on: April 22, 2018, 02:38:32 PM »
Someone gave me a quart of this stuff -  Traxxas Top Fuel Power Plus, 20%.

I contacted them to ascertain the oil content and type of oil - they would not tell me percentage or type of oil.

Anyone here know anything about it?

Yeah it's rc car engine stuff. It's pretty low oil content. Usually 13-15 percent. RC car guys buy more engines than we do. Lol.

A long time ago before I knew better I used some traxxas %25nitro in a cox td 051. I burned the engine up before the end of the quart. Not nearly enough oil in it.

R/C car engines are not run like we run our engines. They need them to rev quicker and higher, and for short bursts of power, then off the gas for the corner. Too much oil makes the engine lag. If the engine and carb are set up correctly, a car engine can last a long time, and when they do wear out it is usually the rods. It really is an apples to oranges comparison when pitting stunt engines to R/C car engines. The closest thing to our stunt run in an R/C engine is the helicopter engines as far as where they want the power and how they run them. The 3-D spend more time at the peak of the power band but your plain joe pilot heli flyer needs his power in the mid to upper mid range.

Yep, agreed. I run 30 / 23 fuel in my big helis. Constantly loading the engine. Especially since I always sucked at collective management. Lol.

I have used Traxxas hi nitro fuel in my TD 051.  However I added a lot of oil.  It works fine.  Per a phone call to Traxxas their 33% nitro fuel has 16% oil content.  They would not tell me the type of oil.  Per Fuel Mixture Workshop software to get the oil content up to 25% I needed to add 3.6 oz of oil to 32 oz of fuel. This would yield Nitro 29.7 %, Mathnl 45.3%, Oil 25%.   I added 4 oz of Caster and have had no problems.  However I am a casual user so I don't know if it will work long term.

I helped some friends with a Monster truck, it taught me something.

Throttle response is everything and trucks spend very little time at WOT (wide open throttle).  Very different than out use.

The idle and mid range seemed mixtures seemed real rich.  There is little chance for a lean run.  So to a point I can see less oil.

That motor had at lease 5 gallons through it, and isn't worn out.

Some guy on another forum reported he tested it and has 16% oil.  but it may be as low as 12%.

I have been told that Power Master is the end supplier for Traxxas glow fuel.  Traxxas seems to consider fuel mix a trade secret.

So I would avoid them.  unless you are in a pinch.

The reason I used it was because it was the only local source with 25% + nitro.  As I said earlier I added lots of oil,

Powermaster sells some car fuel with 8 or 9 % oil.
Give the fuel to a car guy.
