Title: Escaping to Clearwater over Christmas
Post by: Paul Taylor on November 28, 2016, 08:31:25 AM
I will be stealing a week of warmer temps and kind of skipping Christmas and boycotting the shopping madness. We are going to Clearwater FL and soaking up some sunshine.
I would like to stop by the local circle if I can break away for a few hours and maybe meet a few local flyers.
Is there a set day and time during the week when a group might gather? If so at what location?
Thanks
Paul

Hey Paul......good choice!
The MCRC field is where most/all of the St. Pete crowd fly.....give me a shout and I'll try to drag some of my air force up there so we can fly!

Have fun!

You need to talk to Jim Smith, Wayne Smith, Eric Viglione, Mike Waldron, Rich Peabody, or Don Ogren. Those guys all live in that area and will know what's going on.
Don't forget the KOI contest 9-11 December in Glen St Mary, FL. It's about a 3.5 hour trip from Clearwater, but it's always a good time. Gene Martine has posted the info here in the forums.

We have been in every state except Maine and Florida in our short 60+ years... and alway had government passports (active duty ...DA civilians) that are now expired

Recently we thought about escaping the very cold (to us) late January February Cen Tex weather with a trip to Mexico, Belize, Panama, Costa Rica or similar...only to find that a Passport is now a fairly high cost item....grrr... May just have to explore south Florida areas

You can get what is called a passport card for $50 .You cannot use it for air travel but you can exit and enter the US by car or boat with it. Also you will not get the fast lane like a passport does and your car could be searched.

Maine is very nice in the summer. I grew up there.
It can be brutally cold in the winter. I can't recommend a visit then unless you're a skier. With a 4WD vehicle. And a parka, scarf, and mittens.
Have you hugged your wood stove today?

Paulie..  When you get down here E-Mail me and we can set up a day to fly.. I have a place to fly about 40 minutes north of clearwater (Spring Hill) where we can fly at anytime.. If dragging airplanes around with you on your vacation is a burden we also have a bunch of spares gas or electric that you are welcome to..

Don't forget to take jackets.  A few years ago took the family to Disney World over Christmas to News Year.  About froze our last couple of days.

Can agree... Generally mild here....75 yesterday staring at 63F...this morning 37F but rising rapidly to 65F

I love the south and would love to force all jet stream Alaska/Canada air a bit further north

BTW I am some what a weather nut and sort of grin a few times a year when it is 75F here and 45 F in Miami...other times I covet their 65F when I am at 28F
