Enya 35-V series 5225
« on: April 26, 2023, 05:02:22 AM »

Found this gem in the back of our club shed. It's a plain bearing baffled engine. Thinking of converting it to C/L to replace the Fox 35 on my Goldberg Buster and not have to deal with the dreaded burp. With a venturi and spray bar assembly it's 1.5 oz heavier than a Fox. It's had some use but the compression is as good as could be expected. It will hold compression for about five seconds before it starts to give.

Is it a '70's engine? Anyone have any experience with it?

I have had some experience with those motors. They are reliable and wear well.  Would suggest a .270 venturi with an Enya or OS needle assembly for good steady sport/stunt use.  TS

Hello You may not like the weight difference if using the Enya muffler as you will be nose heavy compared to the Fox 35. Found they similar power but sometimes the Enya takes a long time to run in and even a well used example may run hot if still tight. I prefer the ball-raced Enya 45 model 6001 for nicer running characteristics and only a little more weight but on the Buster a modern 25 may be a better swap.

Except for dog Fighting ! , the Enya will swing 10 inches or 11 even , and like NITRO .

Was a Plain Bearing 45 that was renowned as 35 weight & 40 plus power , for stunt .
For a muckaround the Enya is a fine engine & said to last forever , So giveitago , mate .

Jack Sheeks was into Enyas before he found a Super Tigre 46. So a lot of his designs had Enya 35s inem .

Flew the Enya today on a Flitestreak. After some fiddling with glowplugs and needle settings it worked well enough to fly most of the maneuvers. As per the recommendation from Air Ministry, I used a Master Airscrew 10-6 prop. Strapped on a DuBro tongue muffler and used some mystery fuel from the aforementioned club shed where the engine came from. The Clorox jug it was in was labeled '2 Cycle'. All I know is, every time I use it, the engine runs are perfect. I'm saving it for Brodaks. The venturi appears to be a stock .290" Enya venturi and spray bar from my junk drawer.

It's fitting that the last flights ever at our field was todays C/L flights. As we speak, it's being plowed under for a solar farm development.

It's a Real Shame that scientists, politicians, creeps, and un-tutored others do things like jump on useless plans like huge solar fields  that can't even earn enough to pay to build them, at least not for years.  Fortunately, the electric cars are starting to show their real "usefulness", which is "not much".

Drive into a gas station, pump in 15-50 gallons in a few minutes, and go out promptly.  An electricar might take 3-5 times as long, and may burst into flames if by chance the battery has been damaged.
