Engine Mounting Drilling Template
« on: October 28, 2020, 06:51:43 PM »
Years ag I had some plastic templates to use in drilling the mounting holes for a couple of engines I had. They were a flat piece of plastic with the basic outline of the engine and the mounting holes drilled in the engine lugs. I am trying to cut a piece of 1/4 ply as a breakaway mont for an enya 35 engine and would like to have either a template like the old one or the measurements as sometime found in the owners manual to use to cut the square piece of ply.Tried once already but managed to carve out to much room for the engine block and didn't have enough room for the mounting holes. Anybody have a pdf of the engine measurements, or a better idea on how to do this ?

Jim Lee in the vendors section has aluminum jigs for all the popular engines. I picked up an OS 40 46 jig at Baton Rouge from him for $22.

I'll second that.  Jim's stuff is terrific!

I use the engine itself as the template. I secure it in place with clamps, then chuck my Great Planes dead center mount hole locator in my cordless drill.  Double check engine placement, then go to each mount hole and hit the trigger for about 2 seconds.  Result is 4 marking holes perfectly placed. Then it’s off to the drill press to finish the job.

Thanks for the info. Since RASM doesn't list an Enya 35 looks like it of to Jim Lee.

Phil,
Here are the dimensions for the ENYA 35III and 29 IV Model 5224 engines. The drawing is BB engine, but plain bearing just has smaller prop driver and larger (7mm X 1) crank thread.
