Engine Identitity Needed

It resembles a Cave Cobra but lacks head bolts and the exhaust exits are closer together. Photographed at a Ward Hellenberg open house some years ago.

That looks like one of the engines that Ward Hallenberg kept on a shelf on the east side of his garage. It was called the "Whatzit " shelf and contained 20 or 30  ignition engines that nobody could identify.  It was thought that these engines were built in high school shops or aircraft manufacturing plants during WW2 when very few new engines were available.

Thanks. That would explain a lot. When I went to the open house I was so overwhelmed by the size of the collection I just tried to photograph as much as possible and didn't take many notes.
