I bought a SV-22 that weights 69 Oz's with fox 60 and need to chose an engine for it. The Fox is not an option. I have a DS60 lite ringed new, St-51 Italy made CL version new, ST V60 that needs rebuilt and a K&B 61 ABC CL from Brodak new. Can any of these engines do a good job with this plane or do I contact Randy Smith for a PA 65 SE and tube muffler. Thanks in advance.

The Tiger 60 should work real well.....it's kinda porky, but lots flyat that weight.

Is the plane in good shape (ie worth the investment for a PA 61/65?)
The DS 60 would be happier in a plane in the 62 oz or less range. The K&B would probably pull it but weighs around 15 ounces with muffler. A good ST 60 will certainly pull it, but if the engine is toasted you would be better off running the ST -51 instead. I guess the other question is how much are you going to have to monkey with the engine compartment to get another engine in there. It would be worth checking how much room you have between the bearers ahead of time.

The plane is in great condition. It was at the 08' Nats but the engine/prop combo let it down. That is why the Fox is not an option. The engine compartment is plenty big. I am using an aluminum plate to adapt the next engine to the plane. The ST-51 was my 1st choice until I read about the lack of power of the C/L version. The other engines are unknown to me as far as performance is concerned. I know the PA-65 should have plenty of power but was wondering if any of the others had the guts to pull the weight.

I would think you could use either the DS or the ST with that weight. They both pulled my Stregas around with that weight and more and it has a much thicker wing than the SV-22. On the other had (the one holding the wallet)
Mike Haverly has an SV-22 and he was disappointed when it turned out in the high 60's. I think he has a PA 65 /pipe in it. After a little trimming he has become a happy camper and thinks its his best plane.

Mike's plane has a PA 40 on a pipe (unless he changed engines in the last week). Weighs about 67 or 68oz and flies very well. That Randy Smith knows how to design planes that can carry payload with grace.

The SV-22 will fly very well at that weight, and the PA 61 or 65 will pull it very easy at that weight also.
It will also be lighter with either 61 or 65 installed than it is now

Thanks for all the feed back. I guess I will go with a PA-65 since Randy says it will pull it around easily. I was hoping one of the motors I have would get a solid vote. But if I am going to buy a motor, I might as well get the best.
