Title: EMB Carioca (Piper Cherokee) kit building
Post by: fred cesquim on May 03, 2016, 07:05:11 AM
dear flyers, a very good fridn of mine as assembling a museum here in Brazil and comissioned me to build him this 80īs Casa Aerobras design EMB 710 Carioca,
wich is the Brazilian  full size licensed version of Cessnaīs Cherokee made by Embraer
the kit is a rarity, and i only saw it for sale back n the mid 80īs when i started modelling and dreamed with scale models!
recently found one with a friend and made the connection with the museum guy "Edson Trierweiller"
the kit was sold by legendary Casa Aerobras (still in business)! the same guy that sold my first model in 84 is still at the shop selling models!
this particular kit was manufactured by Macīs Precision, also from Sao Paulo, Brazil, and sold eclusively by Aerobras. A curious deviation because Aerobras used to manufacture almost everything sold there, even tried motors (poor results). back in the 60-80īs period Brazil forbid imports, so we all had to make local arrangements for kits, engines, hardweare...only a few lucky guys had imported engines brought hidden from abroad!
hope you enjoy the build along topic!

kit has heavy balsa, lotsa plastic parts (unnusual for Aerobras), tank, wheels and all hardweare
Brazil was nothing like America, if you have to buy things separately you would spend a lot of money with mail and take ages just to gather all necessary stuff to build, so the norm was to fulfill the kit with everything nedded but the engine!

I got this kit as a Christmas gift back when I was still young and innocent  (LL~) and it has been siting in my kit pile since then. I knew that I wouldn't be able to do it justice with my very limited scale building skills, so when Fred approached me and said that Edson might like the kit, I felt very good and didn't think twice about selling it.

Edson is a very dedicated modeller and his idea of a Brazilian Museum of Model Airplanes is really inspiring. I know that he has been acquiring all sorts of interesting items, from vintage and rare kits, to engines, magazines and other pieces of model history.

If anyone feel that there might be a cool piece of memorabilia that should be in the museum, please let me or Fred Know and we will be glad to put you in touch with Edson. And, of course, as soon as the collection is up for showing, we will share it here with you.

Back to the model, this is the very last kit produced by Mac's (which was a short distance from my house) before the owner closed shop. They also produced a kit for the Miss Dara design, which enjoyed a relative success in Brazil during the late 80's/early 90's.

During that time, Casa Aerobras also introduced their T-27 Tucano kit, similar to the Carioca in concept: semi scale design, lots of plastic fairings, powered by a .15 or .20 engine.

I'm eagerly waiting to see the masterpiece that will come out of Fred's workbench. #^ #^ #^

Luis and Charles, youīre too kind guys!
will try to make a nice building topic here
building will be 100% using kit materials and the only extra will be the wheel pants.
as he intent to display the model, it has to be accurate with the time it was available, even the engine will be the local produced Sassi 15
a cheap enya 15 copy, very hard to start and low on power !

seems that this one is far more accurate and scale like than the Pilot kit, but still, ages from being a scale model contender
it was meant for the average modeller of 80īs in Brazil, and with local suppliers, so everything kept very simple
teaser of the plan
Maybe our friend Luis here can CAD drawn one for us, he is a VERY gifted designer, belive me!
we are currently working on a big electric stunt shipl and you should see his design ideas!
will post someday when the plane is closer to finish

Fred
I thought about doing it, but two things prevented me from actually proceeding: I don't know if it's OK to do it regarding Copyright and, to be really frank, I was afraid to run this set o plans through a scanner. Better have you build the model first and after it's finished, if the plan is lost, at least the model is done.

On another not, I really think you might want to consider a little reinforcement in the motor mounts if you really plan to upgrade the power plant to that gorgeous 125 4cycle you have laying around....
Just a thought!!!! LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~

What a cool project - can't wait to see it finished!

A few years back, I built a replica of my Piper PA28-151 (Warrior)

Semi-scale stunt, I used a Nobler wing, modified with triple taper.
It also features a full-flying tail, throttle and brakes.

Fun to fly and in the right hands might even be competitive!

itīs a one of a kind very rare kit, never shows up in years, prototype flew heavy and landed as a brick, so, pointless to risk this one, make a better figure at the museum she was intended to
but yes, would be a sight to see it flying...
