Email from Dr. Thomas Case in today's inbox
« on: February 24, 2012, 12:24:53 PM »
I was surprised to find an email in this morning's inbox, from the well known stunt benefactor in Brazil. It's in Portugese, which is not close enough to Spanish for me to translate. It was a "forward" with three stripes on the left margin. It would be likely that some of you will receive the same email, so I'm posting this here.

As I have never had any communications with the good Dr., I'm thinking that this indicates a result of email account hacking. There are two links attached to the letter. I did not, and would suggest you not, click on those links. While it would perhaps be interesting to have the text translated to English, it looks to me like it's best to just delete it. FYI   H^^ Steve

If you're feeling motivated you might cut & paste the text into a translator site.  You'll get mangled English back, but your understanding of Spanish should help to get you through it.

Given that Mark got the same thing either his email account got hijacked (which is most likely, and in which case you might want to send him a note), or he's doing some legitimate mass-mailing or other and forgot that not everyone speaks his native language.

Of course, V1@GR@ and C1AL1$ comes through the same in any language, and you didn't mention it, so it can't be that obviously spam.

Tim
If my memory is working, Mr. Tom Case's native language is English or what ever it is that they speak in Chicago, IL where he is from.  LOL

I talked with Mr. Case at the NATS a few years ago.

Having met Mr Case at the Worlds in 2004, I would not expect him to send an E-Mail in Portugese.   Him and all the Brazillian team are great people, even tho they couldn't understand my English.   Glad he was there to interpret. H^^

PS:I have a story about his son, who was so small at the time.jeh

I sometimes get very real looking emails that are supposedly from the likes of Google, LinkedIn, facebook or PayPal. Even Microsoft :)

When I put the mouse pointer over the link they tell me to click, I get the URL displayed in the status bar at the bottom of the window... Spammers rarely manage to fake that.

To friends:
in contact with Mr. Thomas, sent the same email to all your contacts with a search for your company. It was to be sent only to the Brazilians, but there was a mistake and for all. So do not worry and obvious, do not respond.
