Title: Email alert
Post by: Bill Gruby on August 07, 2011, 10:35:40 AM
Someone has infiltrated my email account and is sending spam to some of you. I have emailed nobody on this Forum. If you get one from gruby10--------- please just delete it. It will probably be spam. Thanks for the heads up Steve H. We are working on it.

The "Sent Box" was clear this morning. It's over. What a PITA this one was. Found the culprit with a "Malware Scan". The longest part was waiting to get Comcast Security on the phone.  LOL Again, I am sorry if this caused any trouble for anyone else.

If you don't have a copy get a free one of Malwarebytes anti-malware. Be sure to set it to check email.
It is the best one out there

Details on the culprit?
Name and where it was hiding?

Recently mine was used for several hours then stopped. Did not change pass word but did delete some odd looking files found with Start/'Search"

The tipoff with these emails is that they have (No Subject) in the subject line. Opening the email should be safe enough, but there will always be a link in the email, and you DO NOT want to click on that. It could be a virus, or it could be  spam. You don't want to find out which.

Run a malware killer weekly...mine is "Super Anti-Spyware Free Edition". It seems to work well. The quick scan is generally good enough. Sometimes I'll run the full meal deal and it never finds anything beyond what the quick scan did. It will ask to do updates occasionally...I let it. My computer guru recommended it.  H^^ Steve
