Elwyn Aud July 13, 2022
« on: July 13, 2022, 11:27:13 AM »
Elwyn Aud passed away at 5 am this morning at the Rolling Hills care center in Catoosa, Oklahoma from heart failure.
He had been in the hospital and at Rolling hills for the last two months. He had been in declining health for the last couple of years. His health deteriorated quickly starting last October.

He had been a Gluedobber member since the early 1990's.

He was well known for his photography skills, and was well liked by all who knew him.

Godspeed, Elwyn.

This is indeed sad news.  I don't think I have ever seen Elwyn fly a stunt model, but these days I can't hardly think about stunt models without his outstanding and amazing photos coming to mind. Hi photography work will be his legacy and I hope all of his photos can remain on a cloud somewhere or so me one is overseeing his body of work. And just such a great person also. He will be sadly missed.
Sympathies to his family and closest friends,

I think his CL Stunt photography was some of the best in the world, especially photos of the models themselves in flight.  He will be missed.  His legacy sets a high bar for other photographers.

This is indeed terrible news. Elwyn was undoubtedly one of the nicest guys ever in the hobby, and one of the most talented, and one of the most helpful. He supplied me with countless outstanding photos for the pages of Stunt News when I was the editor there. He bailed me out on many occasions and usually at the eleventh hour of production. And, he did it cheerfully.

May you now spend eternity taking amazing photos of heaven my friend.

Godspeed Elwyn, good and faithful servant.

Peace - Bob Hunt

Elwyn was a great guy.  He took some of the best in-flight pictures of our planes.  He would frequently send me a CD of his pictures after an event and didn't ask for money.  I would send him a check anyway.  I was always happy to see him show up with his camera.  May he rest in peace.

Ditto what’s been said.

Meeting and getting to know people from different walks of life is one of the huge upsides of our hobby.  A truly nice fellow.  He will be missed.

So sorry to hear this. He was always close to the circle and getting all the best photos of our planes. Enjoyed watching him work. He always said the best way to get the perfect shot was to take a ton of photos.

My condolences to his family. 🙏🏼

Always enjoyed chatting with Elwyn when were at Brodak.  His photography was fantastic, and he supplied many photos here on SH of otherwise obscure models he had seen.  He liked 1/2A size models; got a flight on one of the electric Baby Clown prototypes at Brodak one year.  I am grateful for meeting him, and witnessing his work - he will be missed by all of us.  Prayers for his family and friends...

Does anyone have a picture of Elwyn that they could upload here?
Pictures of Elwyn are rare.

I used to depend on Elwyn to supply pictures for almost anything controline related.
Sadly, that won't be happening anymore.

This one caught me off-guard, very sad news, and a huge loss to the C/L community.
Elwyn's library of amazing C/L photos will never be outdone and the quality now likely gone forever. It always amazed me how well he could capture our speedy little toys in action. I never saw him at a contest but did run into him a couple different times at Oshkosh. The first time was when he'd noticed a VSC T-shirt I was wearing, he politely approached me and asked who I was. As soon as I gave my name he recognized it and named some of my stuff from the forum. Right there, in our first real-life conversation, it was just as I'd suspected from years of following him here, he struck me as a very humble and extremely nice person. My condolences to all family and friends, Elwyn will be missed.
Narrowly averting disaster since 1964!

I went thru my photo collection and came up with these two shots of Elwyn.  There were a zillion shots Elwyn had taken and shared with me.

The one in the automobile is titled “& miles to go B4 we stop” taken March 2005.  Perhaps on the ride to or from VSC. Driver Elwyn Aud, passenger, Tom Martin  and a very young Joe Gilbert in back.

The other shot was also taken in March 2005 at the VSC banquet.  Elwyn is on the far right.  I believe Ricki Pyatt is the photographer. Left to right: Dale Marlin and wife, Jerry Neafus, Young Joe Gilbert, Tom Martin, and Elwyn Aud.

A young Elwyn Aud story.

Right after Elwyn graduated, he and three friends planned a trip to alaska. All they had for transportation was a wrecked 1965 mustang and a Comet station wagon with a worn out engine. He and 3 friends spent a month putting the Mustang engine into the Comet station wagon. They took off to  alaska and went up the Alcan highway.  Sometimes they would drive until they were low on gas and then spend the night in a closed gas station. The next morning they would fill up and continue on.

One day they were driving down the road and went past a trailer park on the Alcan highway. A teenage girl was standing by the road, and when they drove back, she flipped her dress up over her head.
Eric Muhlberg, the driver said "did you guys see that?". No one had, so Eric turned around and drove back past the trailer park again. Sure enough, the girl was there, and flipped her dress up again to the amusement of the inhabitants of the Comet station wagon. They turned around again and drove back past the trailer park, but this time the girl was gone.

I think it took 14 days for them to get to Anchorage They stayed two days and then spent 14 days to get back to Broken Arrow.

Many years ago we talked Elwyn into entering intermediate stunt at the old Texarkana contest that was CD'd by John Gunn. Elwyn had never entered a contest before, but could do the full stunt pattern and was very good at it.

At Texarkana, He entered intermediate and was called to go fly. He had a good takeoff, and flew the level laps very well. He entered the reverse wingover, went over the top and went straight into the ground. The airplane went into a bunch of pieces, and then left for airplane heaven. (a trash can)

Elwyn was very embaressed and never entered another contest. He still loved to sport fly, though.

Sad news.
Elwyn always had a smile...his photo skills were surperb.
He not only did a great job of photographing planes both flying and on the ground, but he also knew the pilots and frequently the power package.

The Tulsa GlueDobbers C/L Club has lost the photographer who took the picture of any flyer who had placed in their contest. I managed a 3rd in Old Tyme one year and Elwyn dropped by with camera in hand to take a photo for the framed trophy.

He focused his camera before I had removed my wing covers, but the picture looked so nice with the covers on we just left it that way.

My favorite. Elwyn Aud.

I just read the obituary that Elwyn's family posted in the Tulsa World newspaper. There were a lot of entries from Elwyn's co-workers at the Broken Arrow school system. They sounded just like the nice posts on stunt hangar.

                                                   Elwyn was the real deal.
