I went to see Elwyn tonight at Tulsa's famous Saint Francis Hospital in the Cardiac unit. He is hooked up to a machine that beeps intermittently when his Heart rate, blood pressure, breathing , pulse, etc. etc are too high or too low. You have to be there to fully unappreciate it. Elwyn doesn't like it either. I had the nurse come in to silence it, and she did, but it kept beeping intermittently, and I would run over and hit the yellow mute button to silence it.

Elwyn is in good spirits and tells me that he didn't know that he had pneumonia. He said that it came on all the sudden,  he called his sister,  she called emsa, and they took him away to Saint Francis.

He tried watching daytime TV on the main channels (the view) and said that it would rot your brain. He is now watching the discovery channel and really likes it. I brought him a laptop to use, but he has trouble reading and using the keyboard while it is on his lap. He also has trouble reading the screen; the whole thing is too far away from him. and there is no way of getting it closer. Hospital beds are not made to use laptops on.

He is in a good mood and looks and acts like Elwyn. The only difference that I noticed is that he is less inhibited than he normally is. This will probably pass. I doubt that Elwyn will remember too much about this time in his life.

He said that his food tastes bad, and the only thing he could eat today was a banana, and that water and milk tasted pretty good. Things smell wrong also.

He is improving, and for that we are grateful. Elwyn is an integral part of the Gluedobbers, and one of the nicest and most generous guys that you will ever meet.

Elwyn, you heed all that is being told to you about taking it easy..."been there; done that; bought the T-shirt, twice!" 1975. It took me quite awhile to get it back together. Hope to see you shooting pictures soon.

Hey Elwyn; What Jim said. We all missed you at tulsa this year. I have been praying for you, and it seems you are getting better. Hope you continue to improve. Lova and I were going through some of the old pictures you have taken at VSC and other contests, and I go to your inferalanding site quite often, to look at all the planes to get ideas for painting my own. Those pictures bring back great memories. You take care now, and do what the cute little nurses tell you.

Hey, Elwyn:

You just need a couple of cold beers.  Come to VSC-23 next March and we'll take care of that.

Elwyn,
In the event you missed my earlier post -I "think" it was on SSW.

When you are feeling good, please rest for another couple of weeks, dont over do it.
I didnot, and wound up in bed for another month.
The relapse is worse than the initial illness.
Please take care,
We will all continue prayers for a complete recovery!

So glad you are recovering Elwyn! This date a year ago I was in the hospital myself with lung ailments...a chest cavity infection. A year later I feel much better than I did then.  ;D Cant wait to see you with a camera in your hand...better yet, a handle! H^^

Back about 5 or 6 years ago I went through a similar experience, for the same reason as yourself. I wasn't as serious as you, only spent 3 days in there, but, I have to agree with Roger V. Relapses are common, and easy to come by. Every spring, I would get pnuemonia again until I finally got the shot for it

I still pay close attention to illness that affects my lungs.

Please take it easy so you don't relapse, and pay attention to future illnesses.

So glad to see you improving, I've always enjoyed your camera work, and hope to see a lot more of it in the future.

Cheers

John Miller H^^

Managed a few "patterns" in the front room today without getting dizzy or falling on my face. I rarely fly the pattern at the field but it seemed like a good place to start. Stamina and strength are going to take a while to get back. Thanks again for all the prayers and words of encouragement. Elwyn

Hey Elwyn,  Don't feel bad about being outta shape for flying.   I took pictures our contest for the web site.  Well, you see the results on our pictures page. Notice, no action shots.  Don't  forget to practice with the camera a little while your turning circles.  We miss you at the field buddy, hurry back.
