First chance I have had to post this. Most of you know Elwyn from his photos and thought you would like to know. Just before the weekend Elwyn was rushed to the emergency room with a very bad case of pneumonia. They have him sedated and on a ventilator hoping his lungs recover enough to start working again. He is a very sick boy and all the Gluedobbers are preying for a quick recovery.
-
Everyone say a prayer for Elwyn tonight, Sure enjoy his great photos, The picture is one that is not seen alot, Elwyn on the other side of the lens.
Wish I had half his knowledge of photo and his gift to get the right shot.

I met Elwyn at VSC a few years ago. Very nice guy and worked his tail off all week. Hope he is doing better.

Sorry to hear that Elwyn's in the hospital. Am looking forward to his full recovery, and will carry him in prayer.

Prayers are out for a fast recovery. Elwyn is one of those really great people.
-
Elwyn is a great guy and a great photographer. We are praying for him to make a quick recovery.
-
Elwyn has been a very special friend and helper to me over the past several years in helping me to do my stories about the Brodak FlyIn. He has allowed me to use his photos to help to relay all the good things that go on year after year made all the clearer by his photographic magic. I met him in Tulsa when my wife and I went out to see John Ashford at the Glue Dobbers where he had come over to take some pictures. Such a fine guy! I pray for his complete recovery and return to full function.
Most Sincerely,
Phil Spillman

Wishing the best, get well soon Elwyn. H^^

Any news on Elwyn ??
-
Received this email from his sister last night..
Elwyn is making slow progress. Hopefully they will wake him up in a few days.
It was not a heart attack or any of the things they thought at first. The pneumonia caused all the problems, making his heart weak and internal organs to begin shutting down. Heart function is back to normal and other areas are slowly improving, but X-rays still show pneumonia. The doctor expects him to recover, but also says he doesn’t have a crystal ball and that it could take a long time.
-
Thanks for the info Bob. Elwyn's a great guy and I am praying for a
speedy recovery for him. As one who has had pneumonia (though not
as severely as what seems to be Elwyn's case) I know what a miserable
experience it can be. Get well soon Elwyn.

Other then his Gluedobber family, does Elwyn have any family? Was he ever married, if not too personal? H^^
-
His pics are always a delight. Allows those of use who were THERE to be there again and again. I hope for the best. He's in my thoughts. We are lucky in CL to have a generous and able soul like him.
-
William, thanks for posting his photo. I've never met Elwyn, but feel like I know him from his fabulous photography. I'm wishing him a speedy recovery; I know how tough it can be to be in hospital. (In fact,
I'm posting right now from hospital, tomorrow will be 6 weeks worth of it! I'm going home this Saturday and I'm ready and grateful..)
Best regards to all,
L.

Larry C., you are another one I think about. Need to take care so you can be at VSC 2011. H^^
-
I think I ran into Elwyn for the first time at KidVenture in Oshkosh, and several times at VSC. I wish I could handle a camera half as good as he does, but I'm sure he's that good because he's worked at it. I can feel his pain right now, also. The longest week of my life was the week I spent in the hospital with double pneumonia. To quote Roseann Roseannadanna, " I thought I was gonna die!" Get well soon Elwyn and get home fast, you'll recuperate much faster in your own bed! y1 y1 H^^ Sean sends his best wishes also from overseas.
Type at you later,

Received this from his sister lastnight..
Elwyn started breathing on his own this morning! But it will take awhile for the sedative to wear off, especially as long as he was on it. He is still on antibiotics and other IV’s.
I will let you know when he can have visitors.
-
Good new, thanks for the update!

Our prayers for his fast recovery.

That is great news that be even greater when he is back on his feet. H^^
-
Bob,
Do you have a address we could send get well cards to?
Will
-
You can send them to...
Tulsa Gluedobbers
8105 E 586 RD
Catoosa, OK 74015
Am sure someone will visit him and deliver the card.
Otherwise he is in St Francis hospital, Tulsa and the address can be looked up on the net. Only issue I see with sending them to the hospital is if he might get discharged before the card gets to him. I don't have his home address.
-
Thanks for keeping us informed Bob. Get well soon Elwyn! y1

Hi everyone, I was able to drop in on Elwyn tonight. He had other vistors and calls today, and he appreciated them all. He said the hospital was taking good care of him, but the meds make the food "taste like crap". We talked about airplanes, museums, battleships, photography, engines and fuel tanks. He figures television has become worthless or something like that. He's not sure when they will let him out.

Great news, Thanks for keeping us posted .

Somebody get him a laptop...........glad to hear you made it through the critical stages Elwyn.........mind the nurses and doctors, and you'll be taking those great pictures again. God Bless ~john[aka Namvet]
-
Next visiter to Elwyn, tell him it is not the pills making the food taste bad. It is the food itself. I know as I had several months in hospital while they worked on my legs. Don't run into a tow truck with a motorcycle. Also tell Elwyn not to be chasing the nurses. LL~ LL~ H^^
-
Great News!!!
Take is slow Elwyn.
Get well soon.

trying to grt used to a new computer. The Cogntive Therapists came by(aboutt 30-cute as a bugs ear) After answering a few questions I asked her What's the average speed of an uladen European swallow and she was clueless.

I went to see Elwyn tonight at Tulsa's famous Saint Francis Hospital in the Cardiac unit. He is hooked up to a machine that beeps intermittently when his Heart rate, blood pressure, breathing , pulse, etc. etc are too high or too low. You have to be there to fully unappreciate it. Elwyn doesn't like it either. I had the nurse come in to silence it, and she did, but it kept beeping intermittently, and I would run over and hit the yellow mute button to silence it.
Elwyn is in good spirits and tells me that he didn't know that he had pneumonia. He said that it came on all the sudden, he called his sister, she called emsa, and they took him away to Saint Francis.
He tried watching daytime TV on the main channels (the view) and said that it would rot your brain. He is now watching the discovery channel and really likes it. I brought him a laptop to use, but he has trouble reading and using the keyboard while it is on his lap. He also has trouble reading the screen; the whole thing is too far away from him. and there is no way of getting it closer. Hospital beds are not made to use laptops on.
He is in a good mood and looks and acts like Elwyn. The only difference that I noticed is that he is less inhibited than he normally is. This will probably pass. I doubt that Elwyn will remember too much about this time in his life.
He said that his food tastes bad, and the only thing he could eat today was a banana, and that water and milk tasted pretty good. Things smell wrong also.
He is improving, and for that we are grateful. Elwyn is an integral part of the Gluedobbers, and one of the nicest and most generous guys that you will ever meet.
-
Thanks for the report, De.
-
Wow,
Great to hear from you Elwyn, Keep up the recovery.
-
Elwyn, you heed all that is being told to you about taking it easy..."been there; done that; bought the T-shirt, twice!" 1975. It took me quite awhile to get it back together. Hope to see you shooting pictures soon.

See you next year!

-
Hey Elwyn; What Jim said. We all missed you at tulsa this year. I have been praying for you, and it seems you are getting better. Hope you continue to improve. Lova and I were going through some of the old pictures you have taken at VSC and other contests, and I go to your inferalanding site quite often, to look at all the planes to get ideas for painting my own. Those pictures bring back great memories. You take care now, and do what the cute little nurses tell you.
-
Hey, Elwyn:
You just need a couple of cold beers. Come to VSC-23 next March and we'll take care of that.
mk H^^
-
Love your photos and glad to hear you are doing better.
You are in our prayers!
Alan
-
Hey Elwyn, great to hear you are heading home. #^ Now do have all the names, addresses and phone numbers of the cute nurses? S?P You know you might need some care at home. VD~
-
Well not exactly home but I'll recovering over at my sister and brother in law's for a good while. They've been hugely supportive.
-
Elwyn,
In the event you missed my earlier post -I "think" it was on SSW.
When you are feeling good, please rest for another couple of weeks, dont over do it.
I didnot, and wound up in bed for another month.
The relapse is worse than the initial illness.
Please take care,
We will all continue prayers for a complete recovery!

So glad you are recovering Elwyn! This date a year ago I was in the hospital myself with lung ailments...a chest cavity infection. A year later I feel much better than I did then. ;D Cant wait to see you with a camera in your hand...better yet, a handle! H^^
-
Back about 5 or 6 years ago I went through a similar experience, for the same reason as yourself. I wasn't as serious as you, only spent 3 days in there, but, I have to agree with Roger V. Relapses are common, and easy to come by. Every spring, I would get pnuemonia again until I finally got the shot for it
I still pay close attention to illness that affects my lungs.
Please take it easy so you don't relapse, and pay attention to future illnesses.
So glad to see you improving, I've always enjoyed your camera work, and hope to see a lot more of it in the future.
Cheers
John Miller H^^

Elwyn, Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery! But do take it easy and let your body recover from the stress. We have never met but I enoy your photo's and comentary a lot, Best regards.----LOUIE H^^ H^^

Managed a few "patterns" in the front room today without getting dizzy or falling on my face. I rarely fly the pattern at the field but it seemed like a good place to start. Stamina and strength are going to take a while to get back. Thanks again for all the prayers and words of encouragement. Elwyn
-
Hey Elwyn, Don't feel bad about being outta shape for flying. I took pictures our contest for the web site. Well, you see the results on our pictures page. Notice, no action shots. Don't forget to practice with the camera a little while your turning circles. We miss you at the field buddy, hurry back.
