Unexpected surprise
« on: November 17, 2022, 01:06:13 PM »
I was cleaning my flight box and my model room last weekend and gathered a total of 143 glow plugs, most Thunderbolt.
Over the last 20+ years I have alway changed the glow plug before a contest, and now with the high cost of them I though I’d check them out. Surprise, they all fired up. I’m sure most of these have less then 10 flights on them.
I like nice surprises.
Every 7 years ( I think ) my birthday falls on Thanksgiving, so everyone have a fantastic family get together as ours will. Happy Thanksgiving

Blessings
Allen

Don't fall into the trap, Allen! They are trying to suck me in, too, either that, or trying to give me the last little push towards insanity!

Label that, "Control line stunt and scale WITH GLO forever."  Let's face it, with that many plugs, he can't afford to go to the dark side.

A new Thunderbolt is currently on the bay for $14.99.  You are sitting on $2,233.51. #^

Just to give you an example, it has taken me more than 3 months to find/make enough parts to get the *charger* assembled!

Yes, but when all you need to finish a model is nitrate clear dope and rattle-cans of car paint, and all you need to fly them is a can of fuel, diesels do have certain advantages!  (Not to mention the fact that they hardly ever seem to wear out...)
You want to make 'em nice, else you get mad lookin' at 'em!

Some one here on the forums started picking up discarded plugs at the local flying field and saving them. I think he soaked them in acetone or MEK to deep clean the coils, dried them and test lighted them, and they have been working well for him, Can't remember for sure but may have been Dane Martin?? Of you decide to sell any, keep me in mind for a few

Alan, Alan, Alan....
Note please that I was NOT trying to get you to fly electric. That is your choice  snd you do what you want.

My point was it would have been a BIG SURRISE if you didn't need glo plugs...

That's all!!!   😁

Paul, I would like to think this is all in fun, right? Now I get your slant on “surprise “. I can be a little slow on the uptake.

I've run diesels a fair amount, but I can't imagine going into a sit-down restaurant after a day of flying. The smell alone would probably get you the boot, even without the usual blood covered shirt and bandages...  n1 Steve

As it stands right now I have to take off my "Stinky" flying cloths and hang them in the garage! By the time next Friday night comes around I am allowed to bring them in and hang them in the bathroom so's I cane dress and get out quick to go flying with the Budds! I can't smell them myself but she can and I am obliged to "cooperate"!
