Edge 540 Profile Prototype in Flight

okay guys and gals the Edge 540 profile now has three complete flights on it.

Dennis called me today with much excitement while his friend Pete flew the edge 540 profile. basic info as with any new models some minor trimming and it should be a winner..  I believe Dennis will give us a report later when he gets home from the field, but in the meantime a real treat for me was that John Recker Jr was there with a camera phone and he emailed me this video, so this is literally hot off the press (so to speak).

Worked for me. You need to let the Quick Time symbol sit there for about 45 seconds, then it starts.

Dennis recently bought an Evo 60 and wanted to try it out, so he decided change the eng. from the ST 51 to the Evo 60

 I instantly thought the same thing about the site, looks like a tricky place.

 The plane looks good Walter, looks like a pretty good corner too.

 Looks like it was pretty fast, I just have to wonder, another Evo screamer? How long were the lines?

           The Edge 540 is a solid success. Power is an EVO 60 and props were 12/5 and fuel is Powermaster 10/22 plug was the one supplied with the engine and it works well.Lines are .018x63
Installed direct from the box, run once and then flown.The model flew level with no difference in wing height upright/inverted, line tension was exceptional but not excessive.It tracks well and I felt comfortable enough with it to do most of the pattern excluding the 4 leaf clover. Reason I excluded that maneuver is that we had a speed up in the last minutes of engine run on each flight. The tank needs work it was a brodak 5.5 oz tank on pressure and I think some work might be in order.what is apparent is that the engine will definitely get better as it runs more and fuel economy is very good for such a new piece.Oh, the model was perfect and did everything you expext a good stunt model to do. It's big enough to have a presence in the circle and it looks real good on the end of the lines.
Obviously I don't have a lot of experience with 60 sized models and this is going to be my learning curve. Props, tanks, and fuel are going to be worked to find what works best with this engine. But for a first timer I was a really happy camper.

Might be the video, but it looks a little fast.   I have flown in two sites similer to that.  The old City Park Circle of KCK and Gage Park in Topeka.  Not bad with the wind coming from/toward the trees.  Over the trees you were in danger.   H^^

We generally try and fly slightly faster at the site but the vidio unfortunately was taken at the end of the run and my set up caused it to speed up for the last minute of so of the flight. Remember it was it's first outing,new engine, new plane, and inexperience with the equipment on my part. It will improve the next time out. There are some changes being made to the set up for it's next outing.The engine wasn't bad till the end and I really think that prop and fuel and tank attention will correct that flaw. It is really not a screamer just hasn't been mastered by me yet.
