Ebay
« on: April 20, 2020, 10:41:35 AM »
Guess I'm getting too old, but I guess the administrators don't keep tabs on us.  I notice several people list items on here in the classifieds and on other sites also including Ebay.  I need to check but I think Ebay has rules also against listing in several places.  I my self have made it a note not to bid on their items. You're right that listing on both places could create potential problems.  Myself, I would not do it.  However, I don't see anything in the eBay user agreement against it.

On the eBay side, if the item becomes unavailable before the listing is taken down, the seller could get an eBay defect for "out of stock."  Also, eBay could look at a listing take-down as an effort to avoid paying eBay fees, also cause to have eBay cancel the seller's account.

Myself, I use eBay and pay the fees, so I don't have this problem.

Unfortunately, that happens a lot with eBay, Craigslist, and now apparently here. You can see it happening when something people are bidding on is marked something like "item unavailable" - meaning it got sold on one of the other platforms.

It's pretty scuzzy, but unfortunately there's not a lot that can be done, it's not like you impound something at eBay when you offer it, there are also legitimate reasons it might become unavailable.

I would count on people on Stunthanger a lot more than the general eBay seller - some of whom have the ethics of an alley cat. I haven't done much buying/selling for airplane stuff, but a fair bit on radios and vintage electronics, and some of the POSes on eBay should be tossed in jail.

I have all my stuff on ebay AND on Stunt Hanger.

I didn't know listing was one or the other. I apologize.

What about SH and other CL Forums? Is that OK, just ebay isn't?

But, here's the thing.

Buyers pay the ebay price. They have to.

Members of the Forum can make contact and ask for a lower price OR a possible trade/barter. Fantastic opportunity.

I trade/barter all the time, especially graphics.

So, pull my stuff and other sellers stuff who are selling in the Forum and you're eliminating what I described above.

A fantastic opportunity for members in the Forum.

Stuff sells eventually on ebay, so there's nothing to loose by not listing in SH. Forum members visit and buy on ebay all the time.

It's the Forum members who loose, not the seller.

I have used both a forum and Da' Bay. I put the stuff on ONE of the two CLPA-oriented forums for about a month. If it didn't sell (a rare circumstance), it went on Ebay. As I looked at, the best and most ethical way to go.

From eBay's standpoint: It would be unreasonable to expect ALL eBay Sellers to ONLY sell on eBay.  I would be violating their rules if I post a link HERE to something I'm selling on eBay, or if I offer or suggest that I'll sell an eBay item outside of their website if you contact me.

From Stunt Hangar standpoint: I believe the forum CLEARLY states I should not post something here in the Classifieds that I'm also offering on eBay.

Robert offers the Vendors Corner for those who regularly in the course of business offer items.  That said, posting both here and on eBay is no guarantee anything will sell, especially within a "reasonable" time frame.

Another attack on Charles, when do you guys step off the anger train.

Who attacked Charles?  I did not see his name mentioned here at all until he owned up to violating the rules. He claims that "He didn't know" but it's posted at the top of the section and he has been called out for it before. It's been a rule of the forum for as it's been around. What part of that don't you get?
As of right now he still has items listed at both places.

I will often post here first at a lower price before listing elsewhere to give Hangar members a chance to buy cheaper than Ebay, effectively reducing the price by the amount ebay commission would take on the sale. I usually try not to duplicate as I know it’s the rules, but I know it happens sometimes with other folks.

Personally I can’t see the harm if I am able to offer hangar members a better deal here.

Just my 2 cents.

You should talk about violating the rules. Wicked funny.

This "rule" should be removed for the reasons I stated above. I have no "links."

There are benefits like I said. Am I the first? I doubt it.

I will be removing all I can identify so if it's on eBay take it down. It's been a rule since the classifieds started. No double-dipping. One or the other no links to from here either. Paul Taylor use to run classifieds is there anyone who wants to moderate this section?

It's a problem only because you can be bidding in good faith on one platform, but get undercut by a bid on another platform. It doesn't usually cost the winner anything more than they would have paid anyway.

That's why there are generally rules against it.

Robert, it's your site and we truly appreciate it!  The decision is all yours.

If I may play devil's advocate a bit:  I believe the key, which Paul Taylor clearly stated in 2 of his locked posts in the Classifieds - "No links to other sites".

I've abused that rule a few times - not even thinking about it - by posting links to photos of items on Flickr.  Potential buyers got to see more, larger photos, and much less of your capacity was used in the process.

And it's true I can sell something for 10% less here and receive the same net proceeds.

Also, I think of people like Randy Smith - Randy offers products on his website and also posts in the Classifieds here occasionally.  I believe he provides a great service to us and would really hate to see that restricted!

Just thoughts from the peanut gallery, Thanks!

No problems with hosted photos on my part, and I don't see that as a rule breaker. I think Paul meant links to other selling sites and classifieds.  I believe that what Randy lists here are items that he does not have listed on his web site, and is mostly items from personal friends of his he is helping to liquidate estates and such. I have never seen anything he has listed here also listed on his site, and he doesn't use these classifieds to sell what he has on his site, as far as I have seen. That is what his section in the Vendors area is for.

John E. Holliday seems to have his eye on the ball and would be the perfect person to take on the role, perhaps he would consider doing it?

How about it John?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm just a volunteer, so no big deal how it happens, but allow me to explain the work flow I've been using....

When (and yes, when not if)  there is a rule infraction, a person can hit the "report to moderator" button. That immediately sends me a PM and an email. Most times, I send the author of the post a message. Often, it's a no price listed complaint. I've never had an issue with someone going in and correcting it. There was a list of items that a forum member edited the titles to "remove, listed on Ebay" so I removed those.
I usually go through and erase something that's marked as sold about 3 days after it's sold. It's down to 12 pages, but I've had it down to 7.
In fact, if anyone whos sold anything can go in and edit the title to sold, or even reply sold on your own ad, that would help me clean up more.

Thanks
