East / West
« on: May 01, 2015, 10:26:46 AM »

Randy and Howard  .Randy i believe u know me from.  VSC and the 1/2 A multi profile event. Howard we have never met .i have known Krith Trostle longer than any one else.

i have been following the post on origanality points and find myself in the middle as i can see both sides

having flown on both coast i feel that as a whole see stunt differently  on the west coast u have a majority that try to out do each other with each new ship.

on the East coast other than a few  it is about a good flying plane which most times is flown off of Grass . i think Hunterville is the only contest who gives apperance points, no offence but our ( east Coast ) group of Top flyers is much smaller than the west.the rest of us are still working our way up

so to Howard ,i dont feel that not having apperance points is hurting us over here .

i am a good builder of racers and speed planes .but get impaient when finishing a stunter. i was relucktent the first time i went to VSC as i knew i would be Hobknobing with the Big guys and didnt want to end up on the Back row . i was lucky and ended up somewhere in the middle . just my thoughts

sorry ,my spell check isnt working

Howard we have never met .

I was the guy who handed out the daily US team flight schedules at the 2008 world champs.  Your not remembering meeting me shows how ineffective I was as assistant team manager.

I suspect that most ardent coasters, whether they be West- or East-coasters, can agree that civilization as we know it ends at the Mississippi.  There may be disagreement over which side is which, though.

Huntersville does not have appearance points. I believe we were the second contest on the east coast to stop bom and appearance points. Tom Dixon's contest was the first. It seemed like every huntersville contest Will and myself were the ones who did that job. We kept the scoring very close We never used the full range as it would have been counter productive.
I have been in this event since they gave originality points and this was my attempt to max out points.

Hi Bob,
Most definitely I remember you and have always admired your Racing skills!

My comments on the other thread were to simply try to tell the originator of that post that I thought he was making a mountain out of a Mole hill!

I don't believe any of the comments warranted his reaction.  Overreaction is usually the cause of Wars!

I'm not anxious to see the East/West thing get started again...nothing good ever comes from it.

I personally would travel to eastern contests if I had the time and resources to do so...I simply do not!

I suppose it depends on how you see the event. Most of us around here see it as a building and flying event. Clearly, folks elsewhere see it as a flying only event. To each his own.

I'm still not moving to the E. Coast, Randy (Powell)!  n1 Steve

Some times I wonder if living in the middle if this great big good ole USA is an advantage.

So let's all meet in Omaha for a fun fly. Make lots of friends and no one will be a loser just a bunch of winners.

My house in Los Altos went for $1M, so I grabbed the money and ran!  Oregon is much less crowded!  I can actually get in my car and take a trip without a traffic jam.

I have been tracking the hits to our CL club website here in St Louis and found some interesting results. I did the website to advertise our events to guys who wanted to travel to St Louis but if you look at the PDF file you will see that Wyoming, Montana and other states like that have zero hits. The area east of Wichita Kansas is full of hits.

I use to live in Southern California and it is a long drive to get to the Nats, I think most people are ok with driving for 2 days (1000 miles) to get to a contest. Now that I live in St Louis I can easily get to contests near me but the west coast is too far for me to drive

It is!!!   For me Fargo ND is 600+.  Dallas is 550+.   Denver is 550+. St Louis is 250.   Closest to me is Topeka and I missed the last meet they had.
