When were these produced?  The one with the slick side had the V and other lettering but it has been removed.

They made  both ball bearing models and plain bushing models of the 51, Also the later ones had muffler lugs and thicker cylinder sleeves

I have a test report from 1974 on what seems to be your engine at http://sceptreflight.net/Model%20Engine%20Tests/ST%2051%20%281974%29.html where it says the plain bearing version was from 1960.

These old plain bearing 51s are from around 1960 .

Piston / Liners same part No as Ball Race , which I think came out around 62 with the 56 , then the 60 around 1964 .
Was two ring & single ring , Two Ring being first series . Head chambers altered over the years , or Chantis too . :-\

First Line says ' since its appearance in 1960 ! so may well be first made in 1960 . ! H^^
