Title: Earliest Picture of Myself with Control Line Plane
Post by: Dave Swanson on January 21, 2020, 03:42:10 PM
Here I am about 1966 with my Baby FliteStreak.  Fuel bottle and dry cell in hand.  My mother in front.  My sister photobombing behind me,  my grandmother, and cousin.  I had a school yard where I flew about a block away.  The little hobbyshop was about 2 miles away and I would bicycle there to buy supplies.   All of my 50 cent a week allowance was hoarded over the winter and spent there!  This was just before I built my Ringmaster.  I built my own planes and was self taught to fly.  My planes all suffered from infant mortality in those days!

Great picture. I started crashing in 51. We flew in school yards, parks, and any where the grass was cut. No one complained about us flying. Many came to watch. Ah! wonderful days back then with memories we will never forget. Study hall in school was spent perusing the latest model magazines. I might have grown up to be a doctor or lawyer if it was not for model airplanes. I am glad I did not as most of the jobs I had gave me more time to fly. I might have wasted my life doing something else.  y1

Great picture.  I started CL in mid to early 50's.  Good thing Sterling build manual was one sheet of paper.  Most were 1/2A Scientific kits.
