It's the time of year for most people to decide what they want to do for a vacation. For 16 years, I attended the EAA AirVenture Convention and Airshow in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and volunteered for the KidVenture venue where there are all sorts of interactive exhibits with things for kids to do to help get them interested in aviation. One of them is the control line circles where trainers are used to introduce kids and adults alike to flying model airplanes, control line specifically. It is a ton of fun, and there are several perks for volunteers that help make it easier on the pocket book. I am copying an email I got from Geri MacArthur, who with her husband Doug have been co-chairs of the KidVenture control line activity. Contact and she can send you the forms and provide more information. If attending Oshkosh has been on your bucket list, why put it off any longer, and volunteering is a great way to help with expenses. Try and make for several days, as it is impossible to take it all in in just one or even two days. And if you attend, by all means take a model to fly! There is usually a circle with enough room to fly 70 foot lines and grass cut short enough for typical grass gear to be sufficient. Nothing like putting in some patterns in the evening after the airshow as the sun sets and all sorts of warbird and home built aircraft fly over head! Take plenty of T-shirt money!! I wish I could head back again this year but finding and settling into a new job doesn't allow me to make the trip again this year. Geri's email contact info is kidventurecl@outlook.com, and her phone number is in the message. They live out in Washington state so take that into consideration when calling by phone. Contact me by email or PM here on the list for any information I can help you with.

Hello Again!
This year’s KidVenture/AirVenture Convention is rapidly approaching. We have reserved everything needed for a successful convention. The only thing missing is many of our volunteers. Thank you to those who have sent their registrations and/or contacted me about volunteering at this year’s KidVenture (or next year’s). If you are NOT one of those people, consider this as your friendly reminder.
As things sit right now, we do not have enough volunteers to make KidVenture Control Line possible in 2018. I’m not kidding! Even some of our longest-tenured volunteers haven’t responded to the last email. That concerns me. The reason this group of faithful volunteers has been able to provide control line flying at AirVenture for over 20 years is because we’ve all worked together to make it happen. We are also fully aware that life sometimes conspires to undermine our efforts. Unfortunately, that leaves your chairmen in a difficult position. We can nag and plead for the registrations (an approach I abhor, by the way) or you can respond to this letter. So, please do me a favor. Take five minutes, complete your registration form (I have attached another copy for your convenience), sign it and send it back. The deadline for registrations is May 31st. Then, if you have time, you can contact other volunteers with whom you have contact to verify that they have also sent back their forms. If you can’t be with us this year, please let me know that also.
For us personally, our summers at KidVenture/AirVenture are something to which we look forward all year long. You have become like family. I want to believe that this group will be able to continue offering free control line flights to children of all ages as part of KidVenture. The kind of response I receive by May 31st will determine that. If you have any questions or concerns, please write to this email (NOT THE OLD YAHOO ACCOUNT) or call me at 253-292-8585. Doug and I look forward to seeing you in Oshkosh.
Thanks!
Geri MacArthur
