Author Topic: E-Bay Voodoo kit (Read 3866 times)

I posted here awhile ago about winning a bay auction for a Double Voodoo kit, well I received that kit and I must say I'm very happy!!

I thought that becouse the kit was so old that some of the wood would be warped and unusable especialy the leading edge! But guess what?! It's in pefect condition!! No warps!!!!!

So I'm building one for the Fox Rocket .35 that I also won on da bay, It'll be on a bladder, the other will be built for my Enya .29 5103 on a hard tank, but oh my goodness guys the memories, oh my the memories!!

I've put a few together since I got back into CL. Put a couple flights up but sure got dzzzzzzy. I always drill through the engine mounts and epoxy a couple of 1/4 " dowels for strength and put some fiberglass over the nose section. I run either FOX 36x's or Supertigre G21-35's on pacifiers.

I just noticed this post, so I just took a look at your third picture. If that is the engine you are calling a Fox Rocket, you are mistaken. It is a Series III Combat Special. If there is the "Rocket Logo on the case it is a 1960 or 61. They were also produced in 1962 with the 29X case. I think it also had the "Rocket Logo" but I'm not sure. The bolt on front end is a dead give away. Also no Fox Rocket that I know of had a square venturi. If you bought that one cheap on the bay, you got a good deal. That combination is gonna surprise you big time. FWIW

Dwayne;

The Series III Combat Special used the "Rocket Case". The 1961 had no "Wrist Pin" removal hole at the rear of the case. The 1961 did. The 1960 had a narrow case the 61 was wider. You don't have a 1962 because it did not have the logo on the case, it had FOX over a small circle on the bypass, I did some more research. So, you can date yours by the wrist pin hole or absense of. Either way you're gonna have a tiger by the tail. Have fun.

My Fox "Rocket" (Mk III? Now I don't know, looks like yours) on pacifier pressure and a 9x6 or 9x7 prop pulls my 60s-style combat wing at a solid l05 mph. Seems a lot faster than it did when I was 20. Be ready to do a lotta lazy eights. What a blast.

Just pulled out a Mar '65 MAN and noticed that the Voodoo single kit was $2.95 and the double kit was $4.95 at that time.

Never built the Voodoo, but have built the Li'l Satan (.049) and Jr. Satan (.15) which were reduced size Voodoos.
Hope the Voodoos bring back lots of good memories for you.

I'm pretty sure the lil satan and junior satan are spin-offs of the original satan. If memory serves me correctly the satan had a longer and not as wide wing as the voo doo both were very good planes until the super satan came along which Larry Scarinzi designed but Carl Goldberg felt it was to difficult to build and decided not to kit it.

Even the Voodoos you see in the pictures are not original Voodoos...they're the long-boom "improved" later version. Never flew one so I don't know how "improved" they are. Still oughtta be a blast to fly!

Thanks, Tom. I don't remember the Satan. Guess I am more of a Flite Streak kinda guy.

This is the first time I've built one with the longer booms as well so I'll let you all know how it goes if I get it out before winter.

You will love those longer booms on the VooDoo. With longer booms I could have more than 15 degrees of Stabilator movement and be smooth. Let us know how it flies. Have fun, DOC Holliday

I scratch built a long boom and put approx 1/4" throw into the stabilator...have an enya 35 on it and it is fast..so fast, in fact, for an ole guy like me, I added landing gear....now it's an absolute ball to fly...Will try to post a pic..Bob
