I am using a Du Bro hinge slotting tool and I can't get the tool in the right place to make the slots as it is DARK at the wing trailing edge inside the slots..!! Does anybody have any suggestions to help?? Thanks y1

Are you using the slot DuBro alignment tool? It does a good job of centering the slot in the center of the TE and also keeps it properly aligned.
Robart makes an alignment tool for its Hinge Point hinges to center the hole in the TE of the Wing and tail and the LE of the Flaps and elevators and also assures that the hole will be perpendicular to those surfaces.

A little while back I explained how I take a multi tool and modify the flat blade to .400/.500 wide and with metal spacers to locate center of TE or flap c/l. Turn her on and get a niece clean burr free slot with great consistency. ----Louie #^ #^ y1 y1 <= <=

What Keith said...that's what I use.

Laminate your TE with the hinge slots already installed. y1 Steve

Come to think of it, why not laminate the trailing edge too.

I did this on a repair of the elevator on my Cosmic Wind. Elevator is a sheet, but instead of the original simple 1/8" sheet I Made a new one from 3 layers, outside were 1/16" balsa, inner layer 1/32" with cutouts for the slots to be inserted. Worked awesome and the result, while a little heavier, was much more durable than the original 1/8" sheet. Tails tend to take a beating flying off grass.

A while back I picked up the Great Planes electric slotting tool at my LHS, along with the thicker blade for pinned hinges. Using the ol' MK1 eyeball and a line on the surfaces I've had really good results. Makes slotting too easy. I used to put it off and loathe doing them. Now, it's kindof fun.
