On Feb 6th & 7th our little model club took over the Mandeville Aerodrome in Southland New Zealand and holds the annual event known as Models over Mandeville. We have a diverse club with control line, RC and heli. The weather this year was amazing, blue skies and hot temps. I made the most of the weather and put up a dozen flights with my Max Bee and probably another dozen or so with other models too. One of our other members flew above with his Mavic and filmed one of my flights. The angle makes for an interesting perspective. Anyhow here is the link to the video I’ve popped on YouTube.

Ah yes, that’s the new way isn’t it? Well it’s now allowed in the rules. I find the model has better momentum through the first loop that way.

What I noticed is that with the drone in that position, you can really check and see if the second part of the reverse wingover ends the same place the first wingover ended by looking at the building, and you can really check if the second (and third when applicable) loop, etc has the same width as the first (and second) by looking at the stakes on the ground. If that doesn't make sense, what I mean is you can really check to see if the second (and third) time around the loop, etc walks forward or lags behind the first iteration. You can't as distinctly tell if the bottom and top of a repeated maneuver stay the same with the drone in that position, but if that's what you wanted to concentrate on, it would be a simple matter of repositioning the drone.
The overhead loop on the left side of the screen looked to be larger than the the loop on the right side, but that could just be a matter of distortion because of the angle of the drone to the maneuver.
The drone makes a neat tool to check to see if the second (and third) loop, etc directly overlay the first (and second).
Pretty neat tool!

Wow! Just wow! I loved the music track selected for the run. Itade for a relaxing watch, but I imagine flying under a watchful eye wasn't as relaxing for the pilot.
I hope some day to fly like that.

I respectfully disagree. I find it quite helpful in understanding how the shape of the maneuver changes as the angle you view it changes. How many times have you judged when the wind was light and constantly shifting? You had no time to adjust and no idea how the flier would adjust. Granted, you can't make as precise a judgement as you would if you were directly up wind but you can do a pretty good job *IF* you know what it should look like from that angle. What it really does for me is graphically display just how much smaller the circle is at 45 and how that alters the shape of square maneuvers when viewed from anything other than the pilots position.
