I always enjoyed talking to Doug.  His historical pieces in CLW were fun to read too.  Thank you Doug, I will miss you...

Yes, I remember talking to Doug on several occasions...always interesting conversations. Another

A few years ago , Doug rode his B.M.W. motorcycle all the way from Oshkosh Wi. up the Alaska highway with his girlfriend on the back.On the return trip he stopped by Vancouver B.C. for a couple of days.He visited our flying field , spent the night at Harold Youds house, and they visited my wife and I at our house.
He was really a neat guy.I remember he was rather proud of his collection of handles.I see by the obituary that his girlfriend Shirley survived him. Keith Varley

I'll miss Doug.

Back in the 80's, I was Living in Wisconsin, and belonged to the Millwaukee Circlemasters club. Doug was also a member, and he was always interesting, and a bit eckelctic with his flying choices. It has been a pleasure sharing a part of space and time with you Doug. Keep keeping on.  H^^

Sat and talked with Doug several times at Brodak's.  Never a bad word about anyone, never anything but questions and or answers about our hobby.
He deserves a plaque at the flag pole in memory. No doubt about that.  Another one to miss and remember.

I flew with, or against, Doug at a number of contests.  I remember one where he can just to spectate.  He had jist had some sort of major operation, and showed us this row of staples across his abdomen.  He was a good guy and had a lot of interesting ideas.  He will be missed.

I got to meet Doug at Brodaks 2009. Seemed like a heck of a nice guy. His articles on C/L history were always an interesting read. I'm saddened to hear of his passing.

I too got to meet Doug at Brodaks. Very nice guy with interesting stories. I will never forget the story he told me about how they use to past the time in the winter. A few guys would make control line cars, and stake them in the middle of the garage. Crank them up and he said everyone would sit on a chair out side the circle and raise there feet. Fast and would smoke up the garage.
I enjoyed reading his stuff in CLW too.
He will be missed.

I met Doug when he passed through Vancouver as mentioned by Keith above. A year or so later when Joan and I flew to Oshkosh, Doug took a half day off from his KidVenture duties to drive Joan and I up to Greenbay to check out the Packers stadium (Joan is a major Cheesehead).  Doug was a very gracious host, and we had an excellent afternoon together.

Light winds and tight lines Doug.

I am sorry to hear of Doug's passing on to greater flying fields.  I never got to  meet him that I can remember, but really enjoyed his articles and insights plus the history of our modelling of model airplanes.
