Ask Bigiron about getting fuel down your throut.  It can be very painful no matter where it goes.  I even discovered that I had cut a finger while pitting a racing plane.  Makes great disinfectant.  DOC Holliday

Methanol can and will cause blindness.  Whenever you get any fuel in your eyes, flush immediately with water until you can't stand it, and then flush some more.  The skin and especially the mucous membranes in and around the eye will absorb the methanol.  The liver converts methanol to formaldehyde.  The formaldehyde effects the optic nerve and can cause blindness.  As little as 10mil absorbed into the body can cause blindness.

Your experience looks bad enough, Warren. Maybe Marvin (BigIron) will chime in here about his problem at the '84 Reno Nats. That was trly frightening!

Hi All

Apparently this was not caused by the fuel in my eye.  The Dr reckons I've been bitten by a spider or something... and I'm having an alergic reaction. My whole eye has swollen up now.

Cheers

Gday Ty

Yes some of the little buggers are really small, yet deadly too.  They get you while you're sleeping. After the Dr gave me some steriods and antihistamine today it has improved a lot.  Still a bit swollen but getting better by the hour.

Cheers

After watching Animal Planet on TV, I feel for you. You do have some very nasty spiders down there in OZ.  Makes the most deadly one here look like wimps.  y1

Warren...just think about how much worse your eye could have gotten from that spider bite, if you hadn't quickly applied disinfectant (i.e., glow fuel). I forget what's in a "Spider Bite". I'll have to check, next time I'm at the pub (tomorrow night). I've never had one (or more). I did have a "Pornstar" once, but only once. Stoli's Vodka and some other stuff not worth mentioning...  LL~ Steve

Not sure about the "two step snakes"...  ???

But I am having a Jim Beam Bourbon right now to calm the nerves.  We are currently experiencing a massive storm with wind gusts around 100km/h and heavy rain.   It sounds like the roof is going to blow off!

The eye is much better, but it doesnt look like our State Championships will be on tomorrow at this stage...  :(

Hi Warren,

Glad to hear the eye is improving!  And I hope the roof doesn't blow off.  As for your State Champs, it sounds like a "rain delay'!

"My" Gail had a MRI and a procedure to help her back today.  Things are awful quiet around here this evening, and awful HOT!  High 90's F today, and we ain't even into Summer yet!

Good Luck!

I have an internet friend who lives in NSW and he told us there was a snake there that if it got a good bite on you that you would only make a couple of steps before you checked out. You don't suppose that bloke would try to snow us "old country boys" do you ?

There appear to be some Devilish Things in Oz (And I don't mean the people - all my family live there  ;))

I was scared to go in the sea at Perth - and on the Gold Coast (the other side, for those who don't know)

I guess we all get used to our own "nasties". It surprises many people that the hippo is the wild animal that causes most deaths in Africa. Crocodiles and lions come a long way behind, with crocs leading lions by a wide margin

I was bitten on my arm by some sort of small spider (I think) where the Zambezi river comes out of Angola / DRC many years ago. It had a very weird effect - it paralysed my right arm. I could not lift my arm for about an hour - but it seemed much longer. A bit scary, really

Maybe it could have medical uses? Like curare is used in operations? Who knows!
