Don't question Pat, Mark, and Randy!!!
« on: March 31, 2012, 05:52:26 PM »
I got to put up a few flights this afternoon with my flying coach Jim Lynch.

We were chasing that elusive needle setting on my LA .46 that is bolted in my Vector. Jim said he did not know a whole lot about these engines. (He is a PA / AeroTiger kind of guy)

So he called Randy Smith while we were at the field. After he hung up the phone he told me that I needed a 12 in prop.
Well I said to Jim I just happen to have one that I pulled off my Tutor II that had a brand new LA 46 and it did not like it very much. (cause the engine is not fully broken in) Lesson learned.

We bolted the 12.25x3.75 APC on the Vector and it liked it a lot! The plane seemed to needle better, and the engine seemed real happy swinging it.

The next time these guys tell me what prop to put on a engine I am going to bolt it on. If I don't have it my box I will order it. BW@

Thanks guys! H^^

I have been relaying the virtues of the APC 12.25X3.75 prop ever since it was introduced to me by Jim Schuett at a SIG contest years ago. It's one of those magic props that seems to work on anything over a .46 displacement that is a modern engine with schurle porting. It was with this prop on a ST.51 in my Charmer that I first experienced the advantages of a high RPM, low prop pitch set up for flying in the wind. Do a search on the list and find Ted Fanchers post with the story of how this prop came about. Very interesting!
   Good luck and have fun,

APC 12 1/4x3 3/4,
I've used that prop for a lot of things, Stunt and R/C Pattern. It makes a host of engine/model combos work well.

Hi Rootbeard,

Those guys you mention (well maybe not Mark! LOL!!) have years of experience flying at the top levels so I always listen to them. ;D

When it comes to engines, Randy is my "go to" guy.  Never been wrong, so far!

Now to make a wood prop clone of it.  Reduce the GP a little.  Great prop to drop on the LA46 as a base line.  This will pull like a horse.

I plan on putting an LA 46 on a Pathfinder profile.  I've seen articles suggesting the APC 12.25 X 3.75 prop.  I went to the APC website looking for this size.  No luck.  Who sells this size prop.

Thanks
Peter Mick

Peter, here are a couple options, a few minutes on Google resulted in>

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX1577

http://www.rcplanet.com/APC_Propellers_LP12338_12_25x3_75_Sport_Propeller_p/apclp12338.htm

and then on APC Landing products ( manufactures site)
http://www.apcprop.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=LP12338

It helps to know that APC's website and company name is "Landing Products" then use the "online store" "propellor list" options
hope this helps,,

Peter,
I suggest that the engine is fully broken in before you try and swing that prop.

Ask me how I know..... HB~>

Paul,

How's the ground clearance on your Vector with the 12.25?
