?? Don't know..
« on: June 22, 2011, 12:25:13 PM »
I don't know where this should be posted, so here goes, has anybody assembled the T-Rex in the A R C form, and if you changed anything what was it, would you make the same changes on the next one, and how did you like the way it came out?
Also what engine did you use?
   Thanks, Gil

a few people have done it - I am one of them.

mods were mostly strengthening - the fuse has  a weak spot at the trailing edge of the wing and the first run of ARF/ARC kits had a tendancy to break there.

I think a modification was made by Brodaks to fix this - but have not got a new version to check.

Dont use the wing jointers as supplied - the boxes they slide in are not always installed straight - I ended up gluing some 1/4" corbon tubes into the boxes with slow cure epoxy as they hade a litte more play to allow the wins to align whilst drying.

Fibreglass the centre section of the wing - use 2 layers at 45 degrees, the wood used in my one was so brittle you could poke a finger through it by just holding it.

install  shear webs out to at least past the landing gear blocks - this will stiffen the wing up - better still - go all the way out to the tips - also do the trailing edge - the wings flex pretty bad if you dont do this.

I converted mine to electric - so you probably wont want to know the motor choice  :)

Here is a thread by Brad Walker who designed the T Rex.  Very informative.

Gil
Drive up and fly mine if you would like.
Flys better then I do.

With ST .60 needs around 3oz tail weight so shortening the nose might be something to do.

Several structural problems found during Flying. Wing needs more than Shear webs!

I did a complete build thread on the T-Rex including strengthening mods (be sure to read to the end where they are added after issues developed in flying). It is posted in the electric forum
