Now that I have hit the big time, just want to let you know that there are 23 warbirds in the series and now I can say number 24 will be available very soon. Been slow going as life happens but should be finished by the end of march.

Ventura or Harpoon?

I'm hoping for a between the wars warbird like an F3F or P-26. It really doesn't matter what it is, I'll buy one anyway.

Ventura or Harpoon?
I only hope!!!
The coolest and yet unrecognized warbird from WWII. The PV1 could out run a Zero with its R-2800s cranked up.
Off topic: Scott, going to Geneseo this year? I'm giving it up for Brodaks.

Hey Ara:
I'm going to Brodaks and Geneseo this year (same as last, and the year before that, and the year before that...)
Can't and wouldn't want to choose between the two, so always go to both.
I think either a Ventura or a Harpoon would be a great FF or a great twin for stunt (Come on Windy! Time to un-retire, I know the twin you could build!)

Jap ZERO ?

Ventura or Harpoon?
I'd buy that one! y1
Whatever it is fellas, I'm sure it'll be a U.S. plane. Maybe it is the P-39/P-63 that was brought up a while back?

I'm gonna cheat a little here, but I got a balsa gram that said the new plans could be a WW II, Primary Tainer ~>

Hmm, the Stearman's been done, so odds would say it's the PT-19? D>K

I would vote for the PT-19 also, and I think I suggested that to Don the last time I communicated with him about his last offering. I have the dreadful Hanger 9 model, but liked it enough to wish I had the Midwest or Walter Umland kit, or something like Don designs. So I'm hoping for the PT-19, a truly iconic WW-2 trainer and warbird.
OR MAYBE IT"S A BIRD DOG!!!!! A high wing to go along with the Cub?

I'm with James....Hurricane! The world needs a good plan for this iconic fighter. All the plans I have seen for her are garbage.....please, please? %^@ H^^

Another vote for the Hurricane!

Well, we have a winner, Warbird! Yes it is the Fairchild, plans can build either the 19 or the full canopy 26 which is the version I would do. That big side area really helps these thing fly great. If I can find an e-mail address for Warbird, the PDF files will go to him today. This model is a little bigger than most of the earlier designs, about 543 area, 56 inch span. The round wingtips make up about 35 sq in of the wing area and have a less quality airfoil so I went a bit bigger. Still have to write up the assembly tips which will be about the same as all the others! This may be the last one, it took me 3 months but a lot of other stuff going on so time will tell. And I am really tired of drawing the same little bits and pieces 24 times! Should have set up a drawing of "standard parts" after about 3 sets of plans! Oh well, send for your set today!

Please Don:
Before you retire your pencil, please do a Ventura or a Harpoon twin. They just don't get the respect they deserve. And did I mention they were twins??
Thanks,
Scott

Holy cow Don, just got your Email, THANKS!
Taking a good look I agree with Don, I think I'd go with the PT-26 version. Either one will be great though, and likely the best flying PT design to date.
I also hope you continue to add to your excellent list of designs Don, I'll even donate a couple boxes of pencils! :##

Don,
Of course, I will have to get one. I'm sure it is another work of art.

This is one crazy warbird. I look at the proportions and think it would make a good stunter with just elevator, except that the elevator is one sided and would cause adverse roll. But wait, Don Hutch. this your ultimate control sys design challenge. Forget about the flaps since its got a long tail moment. Use the ailerons as in normal airplane to counteract the adverse yaw from the one sided elevator. Design challenge for you and would be a whole new flight trimming challenged for builder/fliers. Don, you design it and I will build the prototype, promise.. Maybe only use the outboard aileron, since it would be a small trimming control.

So far the latest warbird has been a bummer. I have comped more copies than I have sold! I cant justify hunching over the drafting board to do another for that kind of results. And this was kind of a special PT, the enclosed canopy for the 26 version has never been done as far as I know and it really looks much better than the 19, so get your copies now before my hard drive crashes!

Step it up guys, it really is a great looking design. y1

Where and how do we buy a set of plans?

Contact Don directly by email or PM to arrange payment. He sends you a file with plans and instruction sheets. Load those onto a thumb drive and take to the copy shop to run off plans. Easy as pie, even for this computer dummy!

Hey Don: How does your PT26 and T6 designs compare relative to wing area and fuse side area. I have a Saito40, and after seeing what Joe Gilbert has done with your T6 I figure its a "kind of competitive" profile. I will do one of these two, help me decide which plan to order..
-
Don't be a cheap skate and just order both. VD~

Allan- the T-6G and the SBD are both 514 sq ins. The PT-19 is 543 but I feel the round tips will have little lift so it might equal about the same as the other two. The SBD is the best flying airplane I ever flew! The choice is yours, the PT-26 with the canopy looks really nice and has the side area about the same as the other two, the SBD is a pretty airplane and the T-6G looks good in all yellow!

One other one I want to ask about, the T-34. Remember when I saw Don Cranfield's it looked bigger than your other designs, but may have just been the color scheme. How does it compare wing and fuse side area ?
-
T-34, 510 sq in wing area. Pretty much where I have kept most of the birds. This one could build a bit lighter as the long nose avoids the short nose problem of CG location sans lead in the nose. Also the tricycle gear is a point booster at takeoff and landing!

Here's a nice PT-26 I found on Youtube.
