I’ll be practicing stunt. I hope this gets rectified.

I thought "Site 1" was the RC runway.

Map says it’s the L pad. John Paris said they’re taking two circles. What crap.

It's pretty hard to fly if it is dark enough to show a movie. I checked, and it looks like they are setting up at 8:45 PM. If they reserve it all day, then, that might be a bigger problem.

To answer the question... No, we didn't.
I can't say I'm surprised by anything at this point.

Thanks, Brett. I hadn’t appreciated how important it is to reschedule stunt to show a movie. Have someone read the announcement to you: “activities start at 8:30.” How long before that do people start wandering through the circles?

What kind of "activities" could they be having for an hour and fifteen minutes?? The movies starts at 9:45. Maybe the "activities will be a live precision aerobatics demonstration!! Maybe Gong Show style!! The audience can judge and boo off anyone that they don't think is cutting the mustard !! Yes, the "activities for an hour and 15 minutes before the show sounds interesting>>

My outrage-o-meter might be saturated at this point. The AMA could not be more clear about their general contempt for the C/L NAT.
This is not an accident, because they have literally hundreds of acres where they could do this with no impact, including moving the entire affair 200 feet to the West, off the edge of the L=pad. So you can probably assume it is intentional, a sort of passive-aggressive move to show who is the boss.
Complain about it, and I predict the answer will be "what do you mean, stunt is scheduled to start on Sunday, not Saturday, and no official flying is scheduled until Tuesday? A counter-move might be to ask them about off-site practice areas, which they absolutely hate because it makes it looks like the World Center of Aeromodeling might not be all it is cracked up to be.
It has been clear for some time that there is a low-level war between stunt, and the AMA, including other CL events (that need the AMA a lot more than we do). This is just another shot across the bow.

“Activities” have been canceled. They will still have the 9:30 movie.

Steve and everyone else,
Give me and John Paris an ounce of credit. AMA is having a movie night for locals to increase awareness of aeromodelling. I already knew about this as they asked me my thoughts. I told AMA we practice as late as 9:30pm every night including tomorrow night and that was not negotiable.
I heard some rumors about them starting earlier. Both Chad Budreau and Tony Stillman replied to me yesterday that they will not start anything there before 9:30pm. They both replied to John and me very quickly and earnestly.
How about instead of these negative threads, someone call me or email me and we can have a nice conversation instead? Before social media and chat rooms, I believe people called other people to find answers to their questions and concerns.
I hope those of you attending the Banquet and the NATS enjoy both....

Everyone,
I did not get on SH last night to see this, but sent something to the AMA leadership asking for additional detail, in response to an email that I received on this issue, as I did not think it was going to cut into flying and Mark supplemented with the standard cut off time for flying practice. Chad Budreau responded last night and Tony Stillman responded this morning to both Mark's and my emails. Bottom line is that flying will not be interrupted and is actually being encouraged for the general public to see before the movie (Top Gun Maverick I think).
See everyone soon,
John

If they went through the trouble of producing the flyer for the event, simply adding a line or two that the show would not start until CLPA practice on the L-pad had ceased for the day, and also as soon as it was dark enough. That tells anyone that reads the flyer what they want to know. Another line or two and this all could have been avoided !!The purpose of the flyer is to inform the general public, of which the CLPA people are members of, and then none of the confusion would have been generated. I think CLPA is still has one of the largest entries at the NATS each year, and deserves that respect. Mentioning that active CLPA practice would be continuing until dark would let any outside public know what the "activities" were. If you are trying to inform the public, tell them everything that they need to know, and in bigger letters!

Mark and John,
Thank you for everything that you do in support of PAMPA and the 2023 NATS. I was blindsided by this in an email from AMA. I would like to have heard it from you and/or John if you already knew of it and approved it.
My original post was due to me knowing nothing about this prior to receiving the email from AMA and it appeared to be a disregard for CLPA, our activities, and our contributions. Guess I have the same chip on my shoulder as Brett, Derek, and Howard.
Be assured, I will call you the next time something like this happens before starting a flame war. y1
