Does anybody know what this is?

I don't have a clue if this was actually a kit of some kind or if it was just something some one just free hand built. It was made for an OS 29 and was cowled in but I cut it to get the engine out and cleaned. I do fly it now and then but the wood is so brittle that there are new cracks every time I fly it. Plus it flys horrible!
Thanks
David
PS. The tail is missing because I had a take off mishap on the first flight with it last Sat. and I think I forgot it on the ground because it was camouflaged.

David, will make some guesses on this.
To the best of my knowledge:
Engine looks to be an O.S. .29 that was not exported and the few that made it to the U.S. were brought in by U.S. service men who did Duty in Japan after WWII.
The airplane was probably built in Japan but maybe not.......

I got to thinking, The trike landing gear Idea had to come from somewhere. And the sweep angle on the leading and trailing edge of the wings is really weird. I thought it cant be coincidence. I did some research and came up with an interesting site about a modified Wildcat to have swept wings and trike landing gear. I wonder now if there is some history to this model.

Looks like Bell took one beautiful plane and made a monster. My opinion.

When you want to test swept wing design on the cheap, you use what you got I suppose. The ugly woldcat demonstrator caught my eye

I'm not at home but I think it is a 9-6 tornado. It is pretty cool and I like to bring it out every now and then just as a conversation starter.
