S&s Hobby's
« on: December 28, 2010, 04:55:17 PM »
Has anyone had a problem with shipping on time. I put in a order for a plane and silk span on the 15 and it did not get here for chirstmas. Call today and they said it would not be here till after the first of the year. Dont know how mad I should be after beening lied too, when it said that they were in stock. No e-mail or call saying It was not in stock, just let me wait. I allways order thing for the Hobby Shop that I been going to 40 years. Thinking I should support people that support Stunt Hanger. Have order from Randy with no problem. Just can't believe people would do thing like this, but I'm old and remember when people had honnor.

Same here. S&S has the best mail order service I have ever used. Very good pricing also. I see that he doesn't do much with Brodak products any  more though.

I had the same problem with items marked "add to cart" which they say is in stock. After over a week no order or notification ?? after I emailed was told certain items were out of stock or no longer carried. Took almost 3 weeks to get the items that were in stock, I did receive a refund for items not shipped.  ??? ??? That was the first time I had not received excellent service.

What is it with Brodak that nobody is handling their stuff anymore?

I had the usual great service from S&S Hobbies on an order that I placed just after Thanksgiving.

Not sure what happened with all the Brodak kits & products but you can try BJM and North Coast Hobby in the vendor section as they both list the stuff on their web sites.

Hope that Brodak returns to S&S Hobbies when times get better.

A flying Friend of mine placed an order just before Christmas and while talking to the lady was told they are having a tough time keeping the doors open due to lack of business.
He ordered some tanks from them this week and they said it might be a couple of weeks. I hope they do not close as they are very nice people and I have had excellent service in the past.

Guys, need to get into the retail business end of this hobby.   At the time you order even tho the in line catalog says in stock, there may have been a dozen orders come in to wipe out the stock before the computor gets updated.  Then there are the suppliers who may be slow in getting supplies out to the shops.  ALso don't forget the people that move all this stuff from location A t location B.   I have even waited on stuff I ordered and forgot I ordered until it suddenly appears at my door step.  If a person is in a hurry for something, don't order on line.   Make that phone call and talk to person that is in charge and have your credit card ready or PayPal.  And Christmas time is the worst time of lyear to order anything in December even if it is the 1st.  My thoughts. Have any of you ever heard of a DEPRESSION?  For manufactures in means we must cut back on our supplies of merchandise we have on hand and only make up kits as they are ordered.  For hobby dealers they must also cut back on the amount of stock that they can order.  They They must try to carry everything in smaller quantities and restock when they have the funds to do it.  Times are hard now so give us all a little slack - okay?  :-\

Yes we've all heard and felt the tough economic times. That is not the point being raised, it is listing in stock when it's not, and the lack of communication stating it had to be ordered !!

I hate to hear it.  In my personal dealings, I have had nothing but stellar performance from S&S.  I do know from a post here that they are really having trouble staying afloat.  That can cause a lot of stress, and behavior that is really out of character.  Especially so if a business you are running is struggling and you have put a lot of love in it.  From what I know of the owners, it is NOT a matter of honor.

I have no clue as to how so many hobby shops (that are not chain owned) are staying afloat, but I hope they do until the economy gets better.

Joe and Sebra from SS hobbies are the nicest people you can possibly deal with - they are having a hard time with business and health at the moment - so cut them some slack - they are 100% honest and have the highest intergrity -

they dont stock Brodak anymore because Brodak are A$$holes to dealers - I wont get into it - but there is a reason nobody but Brodak will stock Brodak.

its a shame because Brodak do some good stuff and I have built MANY of their kits .....oh well......

We are sorry if we have disappointed many of you durig the last year. We try our best to keep everyone informed about orders and stock. We work 7 days a week 12 hours We clearly state that not all RSM kits are in stock, but if you want a reduced price it my take 10 days to get the kit and ship and it does sometimes take longer because RSM is unable to supply them right away for various reasons.

The current economic environment has been difficult for all of us and we need to all work together to keep control line going instead of working against each other.

I have always had good experiences with Joe and Sebra. They have sent me things as gifts with each thing I ordered from them. They have shipped out orders to me before they even received my check. Joe once sent me a BYO prop to try,no charge, because I had to wait for a few days for a special order APC prop. I have never had any other dealer do anything like that for me. I will always order from S&S if it's something that they carry. Joe, I hope everything works out OK for you in your business. We should have more people like you to deal with. Just my two cents.

Joe and Sebra are the best. More than once they have gone out of there way to order me items that I know didn't represent a whole lot of profit compared to the time it must have taken to place the order. The few times there there was a delay they were up front about it even though it has never been their fault. Wishing them all the best and lots of orders this coming year.  8)

Thank you for "piping in" here Joe, I think some of your input is very necessary in this situation. I realize it can be difficult to keep up with, but I'd also highly suggest some sort of status update(s) on your Vendor page here on the forum. We all know things are slow, but not hearing from you won't help generate anything but bad rumors. Negative rumors get too out of hand way too quickly these days, seems like everyone just wants to kick people while they're down and then can't figure out why things don't work out the way they want them too in the end.

I sincerely hope things get themselves turned around soon, for SS and everyone else.

 Let's all have a better 2011. y1

As my 8th grade teachertried to teach us,  never say anything bad about a person until youknw the whole story and then discuss with that person only.  Now if have something good to say make sure everybody knows about it.  I have slipped too many times in both regards.  Was so good to see and visit with her years ago.   H^^

actually Bob - there are 3 sides to every story - your side, their side and the truth

I support Brodak as a manufacturer and have had good dealings with them - dealers I use (including SS hobbies ) report otherwise.

actually Bob - there are 3 sides to every story - your side, their side and the truth

I support Brodak as a manufacturer and have had good dealings with them - dealers I use (including SS hobbies ) report otherwise.

I am a Brodak dealer that sells locally, I pay the bill on time and have never had a problem. John did change the dealer discount structure a little while back, hard to give a dealer 10% more discount than what you are receiving from your supplier. It was costing Brodak money to sell certain items to it's dealers, so he fixed it and rightfully so.

I'm guessing some dealers that were giving pretty good discounts to the end user had a problem when this change happened. I can only go by what my experience has been, as long as I keep up my end it's been just fine.

If I were looking for something to complain about, my only gripe would be that I don't know if something on an order is out of stock till I receive the order. Not a big deal, and understandable as dealer orders are filled right off the hobby shop shelves just like direct customer orders and you can't expect the gal to run around the hobby shop checking stock while you are on the phone.

That's my side and first hand experience.

The Brodak web site is pretty accurate. Items that I order for customers I check on the web site and advise the customer of status. Items I stock dont matter as I keep a sufficient amount in stock myself. I have to say that the fill rate from Brodak is in the 90%'s especially those shown in the catalog. That said fill rates start to drop towards the end of the year because of inventory taxes. That goes both for distributors and manufacturers. Since the announcement of SIG's demise It's obvious that this business is neither high volume nor high profit except for a very few chosen companies and thats questionable. I am a Brodak dealer and John does what he can within good business practices.

Well S&s put my money back in my account the same day that I called, after waiting over three weeks. Called RSM and had the kit in 3 days, they said that S&S had never called in a order.

I have never dealt with S&S, but if I had a problem with them I would deal with them directly to try and resolve it. 30 years ago I had a large selection of local hobby shops, my closest one now is 45 minutes away but I deal with him as much as possible and he gives me great service, He has probably been building and flying for 60 years and is a wealth of knowledge. If you find a good hobby shop give them as much of your business as you can, I dont even know if my guy breaks even, I am sure he isn't in it for the money, but I treasure the conversations over a cup of coffee we have had discussing models and engines and sometimes just plain old life, you can never have to many mentors and friends.
