Well I have waited for a year with the wife and daughter in charge of the construction of the new shop.  The problem was finding someone to do the concrete work.  Went to the city codes department and found out I do not need a concrete floor.  Sutherlands had a sale on a work shop/storage building.  I am now going to put together my first kit with a few modifications.  It is supposed to be 12 X 20 single floor.  I am adding 4 feet to the length and putting a barn type roof on it.  Also will replace the cheapo doors they show.  Now the much needed rain needs to slow just a tad, but, I am not going to argue with Mother nature.  DOC Holliday

I built my wife a garden (and fuel storage) shed a few years ago.  It was a good kit, and I had fun bulding it.  I bought a real man's framing hammer to assemble it, and my shoulder still hasn't recovered.  Get yourself a nail gun.  If that purchase justifies getting a compressor, so much the better.

Had one of these in California. Be sure to plan plenty of electrical outlets. Also consider (in advance) whether you're gonna want heat and air. AND ventilation! Foam insulation will lower the power bills for those items, and make for a neater installation, too.

Where will the compressor go?. Does it need 220V? Plan at least two air "drops"; one for inside (sanding table, sanders, other air tools; one for outside (spraygun). Remember water traps and drains for each drop. Put an oiler in the inside drop line; air tools need constant lube.

You cannot have too much lighting! Everywhere! Plan it in zones, so you don't waste power lighting areas you're not using. Put down a light-colored linoleum flooring, so you can find the "Oopsies".

Plan two workbenches; one should be on casters.

If you like, I can let you know what a buddy of mine did in his new shop for a paint booth.  He's a NASCAR team owner, and it is a HECK of a paint shop! LOL!!  Of course that didn't compare to his 2 story chassis dyno room that is temperature and humidy controlled!!

(the paint booth is a 100% air circulation/evacuation system and the lighting is brither than the sun!)

Agree on the power and lighting comments.  Also insulation.  My shop is coming along, but too unfinished to show yet.  I had a wall built to close off one bay of my 3-car garage.  4 - 2 bulb flourescents and a 9 ft. power strip on one wall, plus I had the outside wall stripped of wallboard and insulated, and the inside wall is insulated too, as is the new roll-up garage door.  All painted gloss white (no Monokote here!)  Cabinets are in, but I don't have my roll-around cabinets and power tools out of storage yet.  SOON though!

Well Doc, Looks like the hand launch glider has changed into a 1/3 scale 10 channel RC.

Looks like almost everything has been covered, however be sure and make some provision for a vapor barrier between the ground and the floor. If it fits in to the budget, insulating to floor wouldn't be a bad idea. Pretty easy to do now.

Looks like a heck of a deal.... if you need any help... just let me know... only a few minutes away... Insulating the floor is a good idea.. so your feet dont get cold...    have a new twist goin here.. think I am goin to build a Circle here on my property... if i can get grass to grow on it.. cant afford asphalt.. .. you ll have to come out..

Don't forget satellite or cable TV, and a separate circuit for a fridge. That will save long trips to the house, where unsuspected honey do's get in the way of those important building tasks. Might want to consider an internet connection to.

Don't forget to run electric power underground before you build otherwise it will end up in the wrong place.  In view.

Definitely insulate the floor and place plastic under the insulation.  Otherwise everything will mildew.  Ask me how I know!

If I lived closer I'd help as I'm a carpenter by trade and have built many of these. Never built one from plans though just had a size and height is all. All the guys have great advice but just one more DON"T EVER put somthing in there from the yard just to get it out of the way. It's amazing how that one thing can mutiply and the other half thinks it's a yard shed then you'll have a hard time gitting it all out. Good luck Doc
