Title: DOC's Jumbo
Post by: john e. holliday on July 05, 2012, 10:17:30 AM
In one of the threads the Jumbo was mentioned.  As I don't think I had documented it, I finally got out and took pictures plus measurements.   Not as big as I remember.  So I set the ISE next to it.  And that is a Fox .45 with control line venturi.  Weight is in the 60+ ounce range.  I did find that I have a few hinges to fix on the stab/elevator.

Wing:63" span   chord 11.5"
Flaps: 29" with 5" tapered to 3.5"  both of them
Stab/elevator:  31" span
Stab: center 4" going to 2 1/2" at tips
Elevator:5 1/4" going to 4" at tips.

Hope this helps for anyone crazy enough to build one.  The original was flown on 100 foot lines with McCoy Redhead .60 speed engine.

Now THERE is a candidate for an adjustable slider elevator horn!!!!!  :o

Looking at the picture laying on its back, it looks like the elevator horn is exposed now that I look at it. Either way, probably going to want to dial out a bunch of those bad boy flaps!

The designer must have been thinking if a little is good than a lot should be wonderful #^ So he made everything big. Did the article mention flying on long lines or is that another big plane article

By the way full movement is about 20-25 degrees each way.  It will turn very quickly if you pull hard enough.  Really doesn't take that much tho.   H^^
