Well we did not hit the podium in Junk Yard wars but we sure looked good trying. We had our corporate sponsor and hall of fame designer along with a gun slinger for a pilot. Team uniforms with matching hats. And I think we had the most fun!

Paul, how did your plane fly? I wish Shawn and I could've made it this year. Hopefully next year will be looking better. What engine is on the plane? It sure looks to be a fast one. Ken

We were looking for you and Shawn.
It was Clancy's OS 25 F. And yes is was fast. If we had a race I think we would have won. LOL

It did not stunt at all!

We proved the old addage true: Put a big enough engine on a brick and it will fly.

80 Sq In wing area and the OS 25 F ABC engine turning a 9 x 6 prop at 11,000 RPM at launch.

That was the easiest plane to launch, just throw it up at a slight angle and then get out of the way.

I will ask Bob Z. but I think we did it in 29 minutes. When they called time at 30 minutes we were connecting our flying lines to the bellcrank.

By the way, It did a perfect figure "9"

Two additional pictures of the Team Rootbeard's "Junk Yard Jack."

First picture is of the bottom of the plane. It weighs 11.9 ounces less tank and engine.

Second picture is of our super secret line guide. Hope the wife doesn't try to adjust the curtins!!

Elwyn Aud just sent me some pictures of our team's entry flying.

It was easy to hand launch, just throw it up at a 30 degree angle and get out of the way before it gets back around.

Good wood selection was the key. I told you we had more prop area than wing area???

I was not interested in the Junk Yard Wars but am glad I had the opportunity and look forward to it next year too. I aslo was not interested in flying a Bi Slob, but did that too and had a blast. It reminded me of what is fun about control line and enforces my desires to compete in CLPA (still my main interest).

That is a nicer though than some comments we hear about!!

Something about Butchers --- we were wood butchers!

The only blood loss was when Jack rubbed his finger against the prop and found out it had not been deburred.

YES, absolutely.

After the building, I confiscate all the planes and bring them into the shop. I then inspect them for any obvious safety issues.
When finished, I make a set of subjective scoring judgements and add up the scores.

Each plane is pull tested to 25 pounds before the flight.

Then the fun starts.
