Title: Discover Aviation Days...Piston Poppers CL Flyers, Anoka Airport, MN
Post by: Shug Emery on May 31, 2015, 04:29:21 AM
The Piston Poppers were at the Anoka County Airport in Blaine, Minnesota doing flying demos all day for Discover Aviation Days. http://discoveraviationdays.org (http://discoveraviationdays.org)
Been 5 weeks since I have flown control line since we lost out flying field and it felt so good to grab the handle today. Got 6 or seven flights on my Prowler and one on the Bi-Slob. The club had about 49 airlpanes there. Crowds watched us all day, asking questions and even applauded our flights. It was very windy out there but 8 year old Rachel Sandberg flew her Ringmaster and her Dad Keith's  Primary Force  and Prowler even in the gusty conditions.
Fun to see the real aircraft and watch the vintage planes do flyovers. Even a P-51 Mustang.
Truly a fun day.
Whooooooo Buddy))))

GA fly inns are a great avenue to promote our hobby. As said before, Shug's  videos are great, well edited and the music is icing on the cake

Another entertaining and fun video from Sean.
The weather was pretty good all weekend, chilly mornings, like in the mid 40's, but warming up to the mid 60's. Breezy on Saturday but calmer today. Discover Aviation Days is a full weekend of all aspects of aviation. I think the Piston Poppers have been there 20 years. Just some of the planes that were there and flying were a P-51, 2 B-25's, 5 T-6's, a Howard 500 and a Ford Tri-motor. Some of our club members spent hours explaining CL flying to the crowd. Sean entertained us with the Bi-Slob, and Rachael Sandberg was a hit with the audience.

Here's Keith Sandberg, Wayne Willey and Sean.

Are these guys saluting each other, or just talking flying?

Just a freshly restored Mustang.

Nice video Shug, really captures the overall "feel" of the event. y1

It was a GREAT weekend. Saturday was pretty darn breezy but flyable, and then Sunday was much better. It felt good to finally get some flying in, my first time since we lost our field. I've got a bunch of pics from both days too, I'll get them posted when I have a little more time.

Can't wait 'til Polk City! #^
