Digital Scales

Well, I find that my old Ohaus digital scale is starting to get a little flaky, so I was looking for a new one.

Suggestions?

I have a digital scale from Office Depot that I paid $40. for. It works fine and I've very happy with it. However, I found an exact duplicate (different color only) at Harbor freight for $25. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=95364

You might check it out.

Hi guys,

Well, I found one that will weigh up to 10 pounds and is sensitive to .005oz. And can do pounds/ounces, ounces or kilograms/grams or just grams. Looks like a good unit, but I'm not sure I want to put out $125 for it. Big trick is to have a scale that can go down to tenths of a ounce AND weigh something in the 4-6lb range. Not as easy to find one that is both sensitive enough and will take enough total weight.

I have purchased two digital scales in the last three months that I can recommend.

1.  A 35 lb max scale with 0.1 ounce resolution from Just pounds and Ounces, currently being offered as eBay item # 2304 3184 1223.  This scale will measure up to 16 KG at 5 gr. resolution.

2. A 2KG max scale with 0.1 gr resolution from ABEYERR, currently being offered as eBay item # 2704 9924 1551.  This scale will measure up to 4 lb 6.5 oz at .005 oz resolution.

I purchased a 2KG Calibration Weight to verify the accuracy of my scales and both are right on.

Clancy,

Good point. Maybe two scales is the way to go.

I sent you an Email stating the prices I paid on eBay.

I think the other modelers might like to know the costs of each.

The 35 lb digital scale cost $20.38 from Just Pounds and Ounces.  This scale has a 6 x 8 inch platform.

The 2KG digital scale cost $9.88 but has now been reduced to $7.97 from Abeyerr. This scale has a 2 1/2 x 3 inch platform.

I also bought a 2 KG Calibration Weight to test both scales with and it cost $34.99 from Ezaker.  This can also be used for one hand curls.  2 KG = 4 lb 6 1/2 oz. LOL

Hi folks

Remember that there are 28.3 grams in an ounce so that a scale that measures grams is effectively measuring about 1/30th of an ounce. For those who are not metric converted, there is always Versiverter or some similar conversion program.

Cheaper that two scales and you don't have to find space for the two units.

Cheers, Geoff

I bought the one from Harbor Freight that Brian mentioned.  Been using it for a couple of years now and I am very happy with it.  Weighs in grams or pounds/ounces and is powered by batteries or AC adapter that came with it.

Cocaine may have its drawbacks, but it has made small digital scales plentiful.

Weirdly, I found a pretty good scale at a paraphernalia (head) shop. They had it in the window as I was walking by. Max weight of 7.5lbs, measures in .001 ounces or ounces and pounds. 5x4 pad. $49. I bought it.

I really need to build a water proof plane. Some that can fly in the constant drizzle we get this time of year. Sigh....

Weather report is for partly sunny and 52° this Saturday. Of course, yesterday the forecast was for rain on Saturday so believe as much of that as you want. So, I'll look out the window on Saturday and if it's not raining and the wind isn't howling (like last weekend), maybe I'll get to fly (with suitable multiple layers of clothing, of course)

I know this thread is a bit old, but got a good yard sale find! Yesterday I picked up an Ultraship Ultra 75 for 3 bucks. It will weigh up to 75 pounds, and has a detachable faceplate . . . really cool. Displays in grams, kilograms, pounds and pounds-ounces. I compared it to my existing scale from Office Depot and they are both give the same weight, I guess that means they are both accurate, or inaccurate to the same degree.

Anyone looking for a scale should check them out. I found them new on Amazon for $32.99. http://www.amazon.com/My-Weight-Ultraship-Electronic-Shipping/dp/B001ONLX8A
