Just wondering.. was watching the movie Elvis (Kurt Russel) the other night and it depicted Elvis trying to flick the engine into life of a Mustang, Cox powered I think. Couldn't see any lines from the wing but I'm sure it was c/l... Did the KING really fly c/l or was that scene just random nonsense..

I seem to remember seeing that in the same movie too, it was supposed to be based on his life and it was in the same timeline that the cox control line plastic Miss America Mustang was being sold. I used to have on Looked good in the air flew like a brick with a .049 strapped to it.
My vote is yes, Elvis wanted to have fun in life so I'm sure he flew control line. At least until he discovered women!!!!! y1

He didn't succeed at it, though. My new plane is a dog, but his was nothing but a hound dog.

Here's hoping your new airplane never turns into a hunka burnin' love! ;D

Roy Orbison flew CL and later RC. In his auto biography there is a picture of him and a CL model

No prizes for the answer to the riddle "What line did Jesse James (the biker/TV guy) do?", correct or not. :X Steve

I met and spoke at length with Roy Orbison at the Toledo RC Exposition some years ago. He had his RV there and stayed for several days of the show. I was supposed to get a formal interview with him fore the pages of Flying Models after that meeting, but then he died suddenly. He seemed to be a very nice and soft spoken, humble man. I liked him instantly and he was very gracious with his time. A great loss for two communities...

Hey Bob, any bits of the conversations you can pass along?

Dun know bout Elvis flying, Did fly a cox Pt19 in a parking lot about a block from that Pink Cadillac.
Elvis? Who cares.
Now Roy, that's a little different. Wonder if his fellow Wilburys Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, and drummer Jim Keltner flew?

I'm a big fan of the old Sun Studios rockers but I doubt that Elvis ever messed around with CL although I'm sure he knew about them because of Roy. All those guys were either friends or acquaintances, as can be seen in the many old photos, and who can resist talking about their hobbies to friends? :)
If you like Roy O then you really ned to get the DVD called "Black & White Night". Yes, it's all in B&W but simply fantastic. Who else could have had Bonnie Raitt, Jennifer Warnes and k.d. lang as a backing group doing doo wop?? Bruce Springsteen was a bit over the top though...he annoyed me.

Shouldn't the question be "Doesn't Elvis fly control line?". I'll ask him nex time I run into him at the 7-11. H^^

I recall reading before about Evis (sic) and his bodyguards/gofurs playing with CL at Graceland. Can't recall if it was here or on SSW, but maybe a search would turn it up? My impression was that it was more serious than Cox RTF stuff. It might have been in the same thread about one of the Rolling Stones flying models of some sort. y1 Steve

Hey, the thought just hit me this AM while looking at the last post. Wasn't there an Elvis impersonator on SSW at one time? Too lazy to go do a search as it has been some time ago when I vaguely remember it. It was before SH.

Doc, that would be Will ("Willvis") Reeb, of Calgary. Will is a great guy, but hasn't been active for awhile. Those of us in the NW that know Will would love to see him back at it again. y1 Steve
