Dick Mathis Chizler - Photo's of Dicks Planes
« on: July 05, 2021, 02:54:12 PM »
Hey Guys,
I'm currently building a Dick Mathis Chizler and I'm going thru a phase where I'm painting planes like the designer painted theirs.  If anyone has any color photos of any of Dick's Chizlers could you email them to me at dave@westprint.com

Thanks In Advance,
Dave Sabon

Hi Dave,

I hope I can post some pictures I have of Dick Mathis and his Chizler.  His original is what he flew at the 66 Nats and the 67 Los Alamitos Nats (2nd place) behind Bart Klapinski) and is the one that shows in his Flying Models, November 1966, article which was in clear dope over red Japanese tissue trimmed with black tissue, all clear dope.  He used that same airplane, only with a red white and blue paint scheme at the 68 Olathe Nats (8th place)  which is pictured below.

He did an article on a retract gear system (Model Aviation, August 78) that showed a model that looked like a Chizler.  The photos are in B&W and I would guess the colors are white with red and blue trim.

It seems I cannot post the B&W from the Mathis retract article.  I will try to email it to you.

Thanks Keith.  I have the Flying Models November 66 magazine with the Chizler Article.  Jim Hoffman sent me an image of the one you've posted here.  I think is the scheme that I will replicate.

I still think this one is a strong candidate to be finished in the Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile paint scheme... y1

Maybe a day late and $5.00 short(inflation) but I remembered this thread and I ran across this going through some of my old slides.  It was at the 1975 Southwesterns in Dallas.

Also for the record -

The picture that Dave just posted is from the 67 Los Alomitos Nats.  Bart Klapinski - 1st.  Dick Mathis - 2nd.  Bob Gieski - 3rd.

I noticed they cut the nose off of Bob's plane in the picture.  Maybe it was to hide the Canard.  Here is another picture of the plane.LL~ LL~
Yes, it is photoshopped, but wait, did they have photoshop in 67? ???
