DEWEYBIRD
In 1967 Jim Dewey completed his Super Cosmic Wind the “Deweybird”. The airplane has a wingspan 4’ 8” wider than the Cosmic Wind racers and is 4’ longer than the racers. The Deweybird carries an O320 160 hp engine versus the racing airplanes O200 100 hp engines. The Deweybird will cruse at 200 mph at 75% throttle. The Cosmic wind racers were 180 mph airplanes running flat out. When LeVier and Associates started the Cosmic Wind project, it was thought that many more aircraft would be produced over time, so some tooling was fabricated and many components were made in quantity to support the anticipated use. Jim Dewey used the tooling and some spares to complete his "Dewey Bird" super Cosmic Wind up at Santa Paula, CA.
In 1968 Dave Shipton designed a profile stunt model of the Deweybird. It was a 45 1/16” wingspan 413 square inch airplane. He started selling kits from his Hobby Hideaway business. For a period of time Sig Manufacturing kitted the airplane. Sig still kits a 1/2A version of the design. In 2010 Dave gave me a set of plans for the airplane and permission to kit the airplane. I have made a set of CAD plans and will start selling laser cut kits. The kit can be built as a Classic stunt airplane, or it contains parts and the plans show how to make the airplane as a Profile Scale airplane. The airplane is reported to be a good stunter, capable of the complete pattern, it is not a highly competitive precision aerobatic airplane. I have documentation for the scale version. The airplane was originally a two place airplane with retractable gear. Today it is a single place airplane with fixed gear.
If anyone believes that the model was not designed in 1968 as indicated on the plans please let me know.
