Funny story behind this one. Back in June, I got an email from the Course Manager at the Aviation Noncomissioned Officer's Academy at Ft Rucker, AL asking me if I was able to attend the 15W3O Advanced Leaders Course (Formally known as Basic Noncomissioned Officers Course or BNCOC for my fellow Army brothers out there). I asked EVERYBODY in my Chain of Command if our projected deployment was going to conflict with the course, and the consensus was "No, we shouldnt be deploying until about December, so you should be good to go" So I went down to Rucker for August and September for school.
The first week of September I got an email from HRC (Human Resources Command) informing me of a new document uploaded to my OMPF (Online Military Personnel File). Checked my OMPF..lo and behold...DEPLOYMENT ORDERS WITH A DEPARTURE DATE OF 1 OCTOBER!! I mentioned it off-the-cuff to my instructor, an old buddy of mine from flight school, and the next thing I know, I'm in the Commandant's office being asked if I needed to be dismissed so I could rejoin my unit. Contacted my unit and I was flagged as nondeployable until I finished the course.
Finished ALC and got back to Ft Hood in time to see my unit jump on the plane and head to Kyrgyzstan. I'm on leave next week to get everything ready to go and I should be out the door around the 16th. The good news is 1) this deployment will be 9 months instead of the usual 12-14 months that I've grown accustomed to and 2) Ill be flying this new beauty. The bad news (which seems to be bad news for everyone but me) is the unit that were replacing is flying ALOT! So I may reach the 4000 hour mark before all is said and done.
So once again, if I'm not showing up to contests in 2014, I'm on another "business trip"
