Thanks Bob. The guys here at the shop who served in any branch talked about it this morning. The kids asked what's dec 7th? We all sat down and talked about it in a educational way. No judgment for them not knowing the date, they all knew of the event. But it's a serious thing that we discussed, and it was well received by the boys here.

My Dad was one of the lucky ones there on that day.
His best buddy was not so lucky.

He had pictures of the after-math that he would show us from time to time, but I can not for the life of me,find out
what ever happened t those pictures.

Absolutely never forget.

And to think that the 60s hippies are indoctrinating the kids in school, and the guy in the white house who took an oath to defend our country has destroyed the military.  Our prayers are needed.

Prayers!!  Prayers most certainly are needed!!  You write: "the guy in the white house who took an oath to defend our country has destroyed the military" ... Man, that's a lie out of the mouth of satan himself and I feel so sorry for all those who buy into it and believe it!!  I recommend going back to school and study the responsibilities of the separate houses of state.  Our pathetic excuses for congressional and senatorial leadership bear the burden and responsibility for any so called lapses in military strength, highway construction, national infrastructure, healthcare, regulate interstate commerce, develop and legislate a fair tax code, criminal justice system, immigration policy and oh so much more.  When those "knuckleheads do what they were "hired" to do and begin preparing sound fiscal, long term budgets, as the Constitution empowers them to do and to review and then investigate the good and bad expenditures .... not the President .... THEN and only THEN might we see some significant resurgence in the nation's stability.  You and so many others continue to put the blame in the wrong place and on the wrong seat of power.  It's like blaming the pilot of the 747 for not taking off because there no fuel in the plane!!  It ain't his job to fuel the plane!!

Mr. Carter,
While it's true that someone needs to return to school you seem to be a little confused on who it is.  It's the Presidents job to prepare a budget...especially where the military is concerned, it's the Congress' job to approve or deny that budget.  In the past several years the President has not presented a budget for approval and the one he did present was totally short in military spending which is why the Congress would not approve it.  However in true Democrat fashion our esteemed leader in the Whitehouse didn't let that bother him.  He simply got out his pen and phone and continued to spend lots of money on the wrong things, totally ignoring the Congress and even refusing to talk to them.  I have no idea where you get your information, probably CNBC or some other liberal junk tank, but if you are going to attack people and spout nonsense then I suggest you do a little research first!
Mr Obama has done a pretty good job of destroying our National Defense, and if you don't think so you need to talk to a few military people in high places...they all seem to think so!

I know this is not a political forum and I apologize to all (except Mr. Carter) for using it as such.  However as a veteran and Patriot I just couldn't let this go!
It's time to restore America to her former Greatness and get rid of the Socialists that are currently running the country!

Mr Carter I suggest you make a few trips to your local library and starting with Winston Churchill's Books (7 volumes) on World War II, educate yourself on what Tyranny looks like.

The actual Oath says " to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

But the Democrat strangle hold is responsible for what you call the "so called lapses in military strength"

Fact is that our military is down to pre WWI strength.  The Dems are anti military and anti Christian. Just listen to the mocking of prayer the last few days, and Hillary just blamed Falwell Jr for ISIS.  There apparently is no shame in the Socialist Dem Party.. I now call them Demunists after their communist leanings.

How can we forget Pearl Harbor.  I was brought into this world three says later.  The family never talked about losing any family members.  My Dad was part of the home guard as they said he was too old for regular Army.  My brothers weren't old enough.

I agree with Randy C.   Now we have a so called female blaming a religious leader for ISIS and just today going after Wall Street according to the inter net.  Anyway we should never forget the loss on that December day plus the years that followed.  We need another man like Harry Truman  or Ronald Reagan.

It is frightening how ignorant some people are on the responsibilities of the three branches of government and how they are intended to function as set forth in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

I too am a veteran and a patriot.  I was in the Air Force for four years during the Vietnam war had a top secret clearance and reported the intelligence I gathered directly to the National Security Agency.  That is about as much in detail as I care to go.

I also took an oath to protect this country against all enemies both foreign and domestic.  We Now have both in this country and I took my oath VERY seriously.

Randy expressed the way I feel very well so there is no need to belabor this, as tempting as it is.

This post was to honor the memory of the men and women we lost when the Japs bombed Pearl.  Let's keep it that way.

Spent most of a year at Tripler Army Hospital in Hawaii, having been med evac'ed there from Viet Nam.  Tripler was on a beautiful hilltop that looked directly down on Pearl Harbor.
There was a sort of park with benches outside the hospital and I used to sit there sometimes and listen to music on headphones and look down at the Arizona Memorial projecting up from the water in the harbor and think about how terrible that day must have been for the folks on the ships and shore of the harbor.  Sometimes the smell of the smoke and war in Vietnam would creep into my memory and it almost seemed like the attack was happening all over again...We must never forget what happens when we let tyrants gain that kind of control over the world!
During a portion of that time they were filming the Movie Tora, Tora, Tora and the planes, SNJ's made up to look like Zeros, would fly low over a part of the harbor and the hospital and it was almost too much to take!

Never forget!

Mr. Carter,
While it's true that someone needs to return to school you seem to be a little confused on who it is. ....

Randy Cuberly
To the site administrator, If appropriate, I have no problem with you moving this portion of the thread to an appropriate forum, it's just that I don't know how to do it.  I appreciate your patience and support.  Thanks in advance!

Hello Mr. Cuberly!  To respond to your writings, allow me to respond, I am a former Baltimore City Police Officer, retired USAF Weapons Officer (21 yrs), and about as conservative as can be without buying into the "republican hype" (our courts won't even seat me for jury duty, wonder why? :-\ ).  All that aside, I love and enjoy a good clean and even spirited discussion but .... Please, Please agree with me and let us keep this a civil, educational discussion versus retreating to personal attacks, at any level, and I hope others who comment will agree or disagree freely but, again, not allow the comments to become personal under any circumstance; principally because there's not one of us who can wave the "magic wand" and fix the problems one way or the other.

That said, as I remember my high school and college American Government studies, I may be wrong BUT .... the Constitution of the United States directs, authorizes, mandates, empowers the Congress with the responsibility for the national budget: http://www.constitution.org/constit_.htm
(Article I, Section 8 enumerates the powers delegated to the legislature. Financially, and as written ONLY Congress has the power to tax, borrow, pay debt and provide for the common defense and the general welfare; to regulate commerce, bankruptcies, and coin money. To regulate internal affairs, it has the power to regulate and govern military forces and militias, suppress insurrections and repel invasions. It is to provide for naturalization, standards of weights and measures, post offices and roads, and patents; to directly govern the federal district and cessions of land by the states for forts and arsenals.)  We both know there has been a, shall we say, blending of the powers and authorities but the COnstitution very clearly enumerates the power of Congress over the national budget.

Although there have been some changes made (what I believe may have been unconstitutional measures introduced a long time ago), I'm sure there were executive, legislative and judicial agreements that necessitated the changes specifically the transferral of budget "proposal" authority to the executive branch.  Please see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_of_Management_and_Budget .... The Bureau of the Budget, created in 1921 by President Harding.  The bureau, for the first time, placed formal restrictions on the spending of government funds. The Bureau of the Budget later became the Office of Management and Budget was moved to the Executive Office of the President in 1939, and subsequently reorganized into the Office of Management and Budget in 1970 during the Nixon administration.

As it stands, the OMB (https://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Overview) puts together a "proposed" budget to support the President's agenda.  There's not one thing that I could find in any of my albeit limited research that removes the Constitutional requirement, authority and or responsibility (unless it is some kind of legislative agreement buried within the deep recesses of the legal construct that neuters the 535 members, all elected to represent the interest of the nation.

As for your position that the budget presented by the President through the OMB were flawed, allow me to pose the question:  With whom do the the OMB staff discuss information and gather data before submitting their budget proposals?  I have a cousin (GS-15) who works for the OMB and has to deal with a multitude of meetings with congressmen, congressional staffers and lobbyists before she can even put pencil to paper, either for or against a particular budgetary item and it has to be congressionally endorsed, signed or initialed, through multiple offices before it can be incorporated into the "proposed Presidential Budget. Please see: https://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/contributors

Again, please review the following: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_of_Management_and_Budget .... "These staff have dual responsibility for both management and budgetary issues, as well as responsibility for giving expert advice on all aspects relating to their programs. Each year they review federal agency budget requests and help decide what resource requests will be sent to Congress as part of the president's budget. They perform in-depth program evaluations using the Program Assessment Rating Tool, review proposed regulations, agency testimony, analyze pending legislation, and oversee the aspects of the president's management agenda including agency management scorecards."

In conclusion, please don't think that the budget is the "President's Budget" regardless of who sits in the "Big Chair" (from Nixon to Obama).  It is something that has already been discussed, hashed, conferenced, and coordinated on by every member, all 535, long before the document hits the printer.  The present system only serves to give plausible deniability to the House and Senate members because, in reality, the OMB SHOULD belong in their camp:  https://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/legislative-affairs .... "The Legislative Reference Division has the important role of being the central clearing house across the federal government for proposed legislation or testimony by federal officials. It distributes proposed legislation and testimony to all relevant federal reviewers and distils the comments into a consensus opinion of the Administration about the proposal. They are also responsible for writing an Enrolled Bill Memorandum to the president once a bill is presented by both bodies of Congress for the president's signature. The Enrolled Bill Memorandum details the particulars of the bill, opinions on the bill from relevant federal departments, and an overall opinion about whether the bill should be signed into law or vetoed. They also issue Statements of Administration Policy that let Congress know the White House's official position on proposed legislation."

Just for grins, I'll address the military budget issue at a later time especially since I had a "fun-filled" tour dealing with exactly that .... the congressmen, the staffers, the lobbyists, the weapons planners, the manufacturers, some members of the intelligence community .... talk about a uniformed cluster f_-_-!!!   n~ n~ %^@ and everybody's "right" and absolutely must have their appropriation authorized now!! My response ....  LL~ LL~ LL~

Mr Carter,
Essentially you have said nothing that I didn't say!  The President and officials that work for him have the responsibility of preparing a budget and submitting it to Congress for approval.  This POTUS has not done that except for one time.  When it was disapproved he threw a tantrum and shut the Government down.  He even went so far as to close national parks and monuments that technically were already funded under the previous budget.  The press supported him and blamed the Republican controlled congress for the shutdown.  since then He and his minions have not bothered to even submit a budget but just keep spending way above even the bloated previously submitted single budget.

Further He has most often totally ignored his own office of budget management when they do not agree with his made up estimates of what should be spent on what!

The guy actually believes that Climate Change is the most important problem facing the world.  He won't even recognize that terrorism exists most of the time!

The only thing that the Congress is truly guilty of is caving in and not impeaching the Sorry **&(^^%%$^?":>><).  He has committed numerous impeachable offences and should not be in office.  He has strangled the military budget.  He has strangled the military in war zones with ridiculous engagement rules that serve to get US soldiers killed.  I personally believe that he has such a warped insane view of the world that he can not make any rational decision where national security is concerned.

I repeat...In your original post you blamed the Congress for not preparing a budget and that is simply wrong whether you admit it or not.  Incidentally Wikipedia is not a true trusted source for this type of information.  It is in fact often confusing and wrong.  Trust your public library.  They have books that are vetted before being released...Wikipedia is often NOT!

I repeat, you said nothing that I didn't already say and the sources you quoted actually show you were wrong in your original statements!

I will say that I do feel sorry for you having been a police officer in Baltimore and believe it probably accounts for some of you attitudes!

This is in fact a model airplane forum. But it is also a fact our country is in serious trouble. I don't know who's right or what difference it would make if I did know. I know it seems everyone is working against what ever good is trying to be done from the top down. Problems with leadership start at the top and not from the bottom up, hence you can't lead from behind. Or it's hard to lead when your following someone.

Everyone please keep it civil.

If you want an acrimonious debate, we can argue over whether USS Arizona was painted Navy 5D Dark Gray  or 5S Sea Blue on 7 Dec 1941....!

This is entirely Fuchida's fault for not taking any color photos during the attack.

However, inasmuch as the manufacture of Formula 5-D [Dark Gray] has been discontinued, painting will of necessity be limited to touching up with available supplies of this paint, until general issue of the new formulas, 5-S [Sea Blue], 5-O [Ocean Gray], and 5-H [Haze Gray] has been initiated. Well, Mike.  Sounds exactly the same that I did in the USAF during the Korean War.  Later, the CIA gave me a commendation for my small effort.

I was 8 yrs. old on Dec 7, 1941.  My dad closely followed the war progress in the Pacific, so I got all the news from him.  I guess I was a "news-hound" even then!

Hi Floyd

We probably have similar backgrounds.  They sent me go Keesler AFB for 6 months to learn Morse Code.  Then I cross trained into direction finding after two years.  We were called spooks and ditty bops.i

If you want an acrimonious debate, we can argue over whether USS Arizona was painted Navy 5D Dark Gray  or 5S Sea Blue on 7 Dec 1941....!

This is entirely Fuchida's fault for not taking any color photos during the attack.

Those ships sunk in Pearl Harbor were from WW1 so the paint scheme was different than current paint schemes.

If you accept the fact that "he" is in fact a Muslim, everything he has done, is doing , makes sense. . . . .  D>K

Oh man, this is one of favorite lines of bullshit. Remember when President Obama was running for office and all the stink about the the anti white racist baptist church he had been going to for something like ten years? When that didn't stick he was suddenly a Muslim. Muslims don't spend ten years going to Christian churches. So which is it? Anti white baptist or Muslim? Please make up your mind and stop making up bullshit.

Even if he is Muslim, so what? I suggest you read the sixth article of the constitution.

People can take this as a statement of support if they want but it's simply a statement of fact.

Might be nice if the man himself would refer to the Constitution once in a while. Either way, the guy's a dirtbag and is doing a great job of disintegrating America.

Hi Mike G.  I sometimes run across others who were in the same "racket".  I passed 30 WPM International Morse Code at Keesler AFB, then improved my speed on the job, and I used to copy "Peiping Press" at 35 WPM Morse code for hours at a time on the typewriter, just for fun when not much else going on. (all the communist propaganda you want).

So my official title, "Special Intercept Radio Operator" is the unclassified description of my work.  Since you know about NSA, and what they do, the rest of the story is left to speculation.

There are not many of us out there Floyd.  I can still copy code.  I remember "sitting rack", one headset on my ear with the other one cocked to the side of my head, smoking a cigarette, drinking coffee, carrying on a conversation with the guy next to me and copying code.  You were usually copying one group behind. You got to be that good after a while.  Floyd, could you imagine what would have happened to us back then if we had compromised any of the classified material we dealt with every day?  They would have put us under Ft. Leavenworth prison and then look hat happens today.....nothing.

So glad to find out you were in the same outfit....like I said, there are not many of us out there anymore...

Sure they do if they want to become President of the US.  Besides that was really his Wife's church.  He said so himself!

Besides, there may not actually be much difference between the two.

None of this "Bullshit" is made up.  It's all garnered from his statements and actions.  I don't think you could "make up" this kind of bullshit!

It is definitely possible to be blind to facts however.  It seems to be part of the "Socialist Democrat" mantra!

There isn't much "secret" about it anymore Floyd.  Readers Digest disclosed the entire operation in 1962... LL~ LL~

then again in 1965.   y1 <=

I started out in the Army as a ditty bopper in the Army Security Agency in 1961.  Then went Airborne and to OCS, being Gung Ho...there was nothing left but Ranger school and Special Forces, to "Prove myself to myself".  Pretty stupid I guess but that's what young folks do sometimes.  Incidentally I do not regret one second of any of it and would do it all over again if I could!

That's right, because he wasn't born here. He wasn't born here but he was somehow groomed from birth to be put forward as a non citizen president by some far reaching and all powerfull liberal conspiracy. This is of course after he was slipped into Hawaii from Africa with the falsified birth certificate.

Or maybe some people are paranoid and afraid because they can't accept the fact that the world is changing around them along with the demographics of those who vote. You are no longer living in a nation of primarily white Christians. It's just that simple. But maybe it's  easier to believe a fairy tale than face the truth.

To paraphrase president Obama himself:

"If you don't like the way things are going in Washington and the decisions that are being made, go win an election".

So maybe we can be done bitching about politics on a model airplane forum, shut the hell up, and vote.

Randy you are right, most of what we did back then has been declassified.  However from 1970-1973 when I was doing this, it was still very classified and secretive.  Every traffic roll we handled was stamped either SECRET or TOP SECRET.   There is a book entitled THE PUZZLE PALACE that talks about the USAFSS and ASA and how they worked with NSA and DIA.  We only reported to NSA.  One of the more interesting things I was part of was when I cross trained into DF (Direction Finding) and we tracked the deorbit of the  Soviet Soyuz manned space shots.  The Russians burned up a few Cosmonauts and we could actually hear them screaming as they were being burned alive upon reentry.  We monitored all of those.  You never heard about it on the news back then

I grad, HS in 71  went in to the AF in 73 and went to Keesler to Alley and Dolan Hall for Doppler/INS avionics back then.

Yes, I remember the guys that went across the taxi-way to the hangares for Ditty Bop as well as Dirt Radio and and a few other AFSC's
back then.   Dang, those were to good times.  I used to fly CL in the Triangle  BB fields along with a bunch of other airmen. had a great time.
Even bought my own first car in Biloxi at the Chevy dealer.  73 Nova SS FULLY loaded with 396/Muncie 4 speed for $3495.00 out the door.

Yes Carl they were good times.  Ah yes, the Triangle Area.  I got to Keesler right after hurricane Camile.  Biloxi was a mess.  We did a lot of patrols in the back Bay Area looking for bodies while waiting for Morse Systems school to start.

First of all when a certain group of people identify with a "religion" then swear that they will kill you if you don't conform to their "religion" that's not a religion it's an evil political system. That's what Radicalized Islam is!  An evil political system.   They will stop at nothing to destroy our civilization and return the world to the 7th century.

It isn't paranoid to recognize that, when they stand in the streets and chant it over and over!  It is positively STUPID to deny that the threat exists.  When the President of the US does everything he possibly can to help them he should be removed from office.  That's in the constitution also!

I'm finished now!  Believe what you will and I sincerely hope you never have reason to regret it.  I'm very much afraid you will however!

Randy,

Let me say this and then I will also put this to rest. I know what radicalized militant Islam is. I whole heartedly agree it is the biggest most immediate threat we face as a nation. It may prove be the biggest threat we ever faced, an internal enemy that is eager to die for it's cause. One of the San Bernardino attackers was born here, that should scare the hell out of all of us.  I also agree our president is not doing enough to protect us. He is running out the clock so he can pass the problem on to the next occupant of the Oval Office. I just don't think a weak and inept foreign policy equates to him being Muslim.

Mr Carter,
Essentially you have said nothing that I didn't say!  The President and officials that work for him have the responsibility of preparing a budget and submitting it to Congress for approval.  This POTUS has not done that except for one time.

I snipped the above post at this point and will simply say - stop it.  Stop the hate, stop the bigotry, stop the lies (or cruel rhetoric if that's what you want to call it).  Randy, you claim Obama has submitted only one budget despite being required by law to submit one every year.  Which years did he not submit one?  2010? 2011? 2012? 2013? 2014? 2015? or 2016?

Here's the President's FY 2016 budget https://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/budget/fy2016/assets/budget.pdf.
The FY 2015 budget:  https://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/budget/fy2015/assets/budget.pdf
The FY 2014 budget:  https://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/budget/fy2014/assets/budget.pdf
The FY 2013 budget:  https://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/budget/fy2013/assets/budget.pdf
The FY 2012 budget:  https://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/budget/fy2012/assets/budget.pdf
The FY 2011 budget:  https://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/budget/fy2011/assets/budget.pdf
The FY 2010 budget:  https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BUDGET-2010-PER/pdf/BUDGET-2010-PER.pdf (the OMB link doesn't work as above)

Yes, I voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012.  I'm liberal, a progressive and mostly a democrat.  I'm also a veteran (USAF 1979-85) and a patriot.  My father was WWII-Vietnam, grandfather WWI-WWII and great-grandfather Civil War.  I'm also currently a civilian federal employee (VA) and pay attention to budgets - both in social spending and national defense.  I was a weapons systems acquisition officer on active duty.  Thirty years in the private sector (banking and finance), BBA and MBA degrees.

Why the endless lies regarding our current POTUS persist, I don't know.  Actually I do but I won't say it.  What is destroying this country is this mindless rhetoric which divides us - most of it utterly baseless.  Spirited debate is a healthy thing but I can't stand the crap I see posted here.

I've been to Pearl Harbor in 1966 when my family returned CONUS from a tour at Clark AB, Republic of the Philippines.  As a boy scout, I participated in 2 reenactments of the Bataan Death March.  Displayed on our MN state capital grounds is the 4" gun from the USS Ward which sank a Japanese midget sub trying to enter Pearl Harbor before the air raids.  It was the first shots fired on Dec 7.  The gun crew was a MN naval reserve crew.

I salute our veterans, those currently serving in uniform, our dedicated federal civilian employees AND OUR CURRENT POTUS.  He is a patriotic American.
