As noted in that article, many planes - mostly military - rest on the bottom of Lake Michigan.  Wonder if they'll ever find what's left of that UAL 727-100 that mysteriously disappeared while approaching O'Hare (1965?).

Chuck has pulled 3 out so far that I know about.  He has a deal with the Navy he trades work for right to pull them out.  One was an early model F4U, and a SBD dive bomber.

It is kind of neat, as the ones in the lake were not front line aircraft, and even more rare.  I think they got a SB2U Vindicator out of there.

A&T recover has pulled 31 A/C from the lake for the navy.

Thanks again Chuck Greenhill. I'm really glad that there is guys like him (with gobs of money) that have an interest preserving these aircraft, and flying them. On top it, he's actually a nice guy if you meet him.

As a side note, Chuck is also the owner of "Furias", the Unlimited Sea Fury race plane. It had just been fully restored and was supposed to run at Reno this year but they had a landing gear failure early in the race week. The pilot got it down and was safe, but the aircraft was damaged badly enough that it will need another large application of cubic dollars.

I hope the P-40 Kittyhawk found in the Egyptian desert is recovered soon before it's picked to death by looters and souvenir hunters. What a time capsule, same with the buried Spitfires in Burma.

Chuck owns a real nice mustang.  Also has a thing for Gruman flying boats and did own a goose, malard, wiegon and a duck that was at pearl harbor.  He was based in Kenosha Airport.

Not positive here, but I think Chuck may have two Mustangs. One, if he still has it, he's had since at least 1998. It was a "LOU IV" nose art Mustang. The other is a fairly recent restoration that flies today as "Geraldine". It is an impeccable restoration and very WWII period accurate, following the current Warbird high-end resto trend.
He does also have a Duck, another phenomenal resto that was done by Wichita Air Service. It's also the earliest currently flyable Duck and the only one flying with the "speed ring" type cowl. There can't be many flyable Ducks left. As far as the other Grummans mentioned, I wouldn't be suprised if he has them all.

Here's some pics of "Geraldine" and the Duck...

Having restored two planes from "basket case" condition, I know what a tremendous task just one would be!  My 2nd restoration took me 7 years (but it won Grand Prize in "antique" division at the Watsonville [CA] Antique Fly-in)

Hi Floyd:

I exhibited my T-Craft L2-M at Watsonville in the "Liason" category many times in the 1980s and have a few ribbons to show for it. When were you exhibiting, and what was the aircraft? We may have crossed paths without knowing it. For me it was just  a short hop over the Santa Cruz Mountains, but for you I reckon it was a little longer ride.
