Gil;

I think "Krylon" has the color you are looking for. Can be found at local Hardware Stores.

I just recently used some Krylon Flourescent Orange on a plane!  It is a "Safety color" and *seems* to be lacquer compatible.  It came in a big spray can, chome finish on the can, IIRC.

Gil,
I did the same Krylon Fluorescent treatment to all my props and it works great. I used a white base coat before applying the fluorescent.

You can also get it as a dry additive from House of Kolor. Just look under the base colors. Add it to lacquer.

CAUTION!
EVEN WITH A GOOD TOP CLEAR TOP COAT...KEEP ANY MODEL PAINTED WITH DAYGLOW RED OR ORANGE...can turn into the pretty panty pink you've ever seen.
Ultra violett light-keep that model outta the bright sun...as much as possible..Put something to screen the sun as soon as possible after a flight.

Ask Paul Walker !!! LL~

Hi Shultzie,

Those UV rays can really be a killer for some other colors, too!  Robbie Gruber (Junior ex-WC) had one of his trim colors all but disappear from his plane!  It just kept fading, and fading............. I *think* it was a candy purple.

Good point, Shultzie. I remember Paul Walker's day-glo Impact. Was supposed to be red and yellow day-glo. Ended up as day-glo pink and chartruse. It did stand out.

Good point, Shultzie. I remember Paul Walker's day-glo Impact. Was supposed to be red and yellow day-glo. Ended up as day-glo pink and chartruse. It did stand out.

One fine day,  many "MOONS" ago... Paul Walker  talking with Bob Parker and I about his sun damaged  "panty-pink" Impact sitting there on the Boeing Parking lot.(Truth be known)  As beautiful as that Impact was...it could have been painted  "poop-muckle-dung" and it still would have been a winner. It was now Paul's turn to put up a flight..
Paul  squatted down to start up his engine...(with a very noticable underwear &matching "moon-crack" showing)...I couldn't help making a very "nasty-crack" comment to Bob (so that Paul could hear both of us razzz about his too much information moonie...
I yelled:
"Hey Bob! Do you think that Paul might get more appearence points with that Panty-pink airplane of his, IF HE WORE COLOR CO-ORDINATED PINK PANTY'S to match his Impact?"

Paul...without hesitation took some one near by full fuel bulb...aimed it at both of us...gave us that big "snyle of his, and gave that bulb  a quick sqeeeze n' squirt of fuel in our direction,

while saying: "Anybody got a match or a cig' lighter?"

After a few comments from our peanut gallery, Paul gave that beautiful panty-pink Impact a one flip start and walked out to the center of the circle...PUT IN ONE REALLY HECKY-DARN OF A GREAT PATTERN.
Thus proving...."Who really gives a ripp what color Paul's stunt model is...He could even paint that Impact to match a "12 cent piece of cheapy garage floor tile" and he would still win.

Bob Hunt disagrees with me,) CHECK OUT THE ATTACHED PHOTO at the floor tile colored model that Gene Schaffer sat down next to my model on the line up at the nats in 67.
I had to take a picture of this paint job..as a few of Gene friendly competitors were razzin-and jazzin him about WHY WOULD HE PAINT ANY STUNT MODEL THAT COLOR?
Again, we stopped teasing Gene...after we saw just how amazing he could fly that floor-tile trimmed model of his. Bob mentioned that Gene had one of those RANDY POWELL PAINT FAILURE MOMENTS just days before traveling to the nats and had to GO WITH THE FLOW...thus once again sadly proving:
One is truly only as good as their last gig or paint job.

Another story...another issue: See the stab that was sitting next to Gene's model. This was also a story of the nats. "Bob Barons beautiful COMBAT-LIKE stunt model..that so many died in the woolee's traditionist stunt grunts.....gave Bob waaaay more than a letal dose of nasty comments...
like: "HEY BARON...the combat event is waaaay over there? However to me: Bob Baron was still one of the greatest flyers and innovative stunt model builders ever born. Although he punch many a puriest' buttons...still bottom line: He was so gifted and unique and I for one, feel so fortunate to have had the pleasure to have known him. He gave so much to so many during his all too brief time spent on this earth. Long live his memory

FYI ... Gene's plane is the "Blackbird" ... the one that shares the same aerodynamics and "numbers" as Bob Hunt's Caprice.

I think the Blackbird was on its second paint job in this photo.  The original (I think) was black with red and gold trim.

FWIW, I think the marble effect on the Blackbird's paint job looks pretty cool.  I'd rather have a plane that stands out from the crowd than one that gets lost in it.

If I'm daring, I'll make the Caprice that I'm currently building look like the Blackbird.  (If not, it'll look like Bob's red-and-black one instead.)

Gads that little .19 sized engine would reeeeeeeeeeeeally whine...
but the lap speeds were so smmmmoooth, AND virtually the same if not slower than the majority of those NOBLER CLONES...but the real boon' to Bob's design concept, he was one of the first to utilize high engine speeds using large dia. FLAT PITCHED PROPS.

SO MANY OF US WERE SHOCKED when we saw how beautifully this "combat-stunter" taimed those horrific high summer winds...
This little .19 powered model displayed virtually NO SPEED UP OR WIND UP IN THE WINDS...
just a steady smoooooth forward flowing flight. Although the engine was screeeeeeeamin' like a speed demon's dream that large full sized model just kept pace with Bob's gifted reflexes and talented flying skills.

Bob Baron...made a difference that day and changed the way we looked at stunt flying and stunt model design.

GO FOR IT FERGIE!
but hey...why not try something a little BOLDER than a 12 cent floor tile paint job like Gene's. Say:
How bout a "FOOOFUR" PAINT JOB! ...Drive over to a neighborhood dog groomer...sweep up the clipping off the floor....(I would suggest a combination of various breeds...from a poodle to an afgan, for variety....spray on a tac coat of 3M spray glue...and then blow on the fur. Let it dry...comb it out! EUREKA!
Not only would the model look radical..but as you know actually proven in wind tunnel tests..that fur lined airfoils can be more efficent..reducing "parasitical" drag and can actually delay a wing from stalling which means that can reduce flight speeds.

Or...better yet! HOW BOUT' BUILDING AN ALL AMERICAN EAGLE...load that shot gun with birdshot...BLAST AWAY AT A FLOCK OF BLACK CROWS...then adorn that new model with BLACK CROW FEATHERS, and for trim...hey! Go PLUCK A CHICKEN....WHITE FEATHERS COULD BE A BEAUTIFUL ACCENT...and can be easily dyed any color..
Get out that 3M adhesive...and JUST THINK OF THE RESULTS!!

HOW'S THAT FOR BEING UNIQUE?  OPPS! ONE MORE IDEA!
Consider taking that new model in primer...spray on a thick coat of LillyMiller potting soil, laced with either a lush wheat grass...or lawn seed of your choice.
In my school auto workshop...we did this to an old 1947 Fat Fendered Chevy. With in a few weeks we had the lushest green grass coated car that you have ever seen. We drove that in a spring parade in downtown Tillamook. Even our nemisus...OFFICER GREEN...loved that beautiful lush green finish on that old 47 Chev.
However..sadly weight might be an issue with a Wheat-Grass Green stunt model...hummm? Also might not be fuel or fool proof.

Let your mind flow....also I can remember seeing a beautiful "finger painted combat model"
Benny took his Big Iron...sprayed a coat of heavy Fokker red..and then asked all his combat buddies to place their hand prints onto the model. I have slides of that model somewhere...
The white primer undercoat made those fingerprints really show up. After it dried...we signed our names next to our finger prints...That model hung for some time in a model shop in Puyallup for a few years afterwards. I wonder, wonder, wonder...where or where can that model be?

See what too many cups of Starbucks can do to an old stuntgrunt? SAD HUH?
HOWEVER....ALWAYS TRY TO THINK OR SINK..OUTSIDE THE BOX!
